Still need a good centerman like mike Richards or Anze Kopitar or getzlaf or someone good. Big win, now we gotta beat the oil!

The oil are playing pretty inspired hockey these days. Good thing we're not playing them in Edm though, pretty dirty splits.

Home - 15-8-3
Away - 6-18-2

My money is on the Leafs.

I think were gonna get rocked tonight. Is the nuge playing? Hall and eberle are gonna kill us. And Gagner has 11 points in 2 games.

Anthony Stewart waived today. I think Burke should pick him up. He has scoring ability (39 points on the third line in ATL) He's big and he hit moderately. If he got the playing time i think he will do really good.
Thoughts?

Nuge was playing Sat so I expect to see him.

I still think TOR has got this. They seem pretty hungry these days and realize that the playoff battle starts now, they won't be taking any games off (I hope not).

As for Gagner, he played out of his mind for one game and then followed up it with another great outing but I don't expect him to continue playing to that level especially if he's facing a hot/lucky goalie. He had 3 points against Conklin, who has been horrible this year and was pulled in the first period. Not saying he won't have a solid game but I need to see more consistency to be worried. The one game was an anomaly (as it would be for anyone) and another solid game but again he had 2 PP goals against a horrible goalie. Then factor in that EDM has the #1 PP at home and that TOR has been one of the if not the least penalized teams in 2012. His streak ends tonight.

I haven't seen too much of Anthony Stewart but if he's coming at no cost I'd pick him up. The only thing is, I don't really see him as an upgrade on talent from our current roster; just another body to add to the log jam.

Thing with Stewart is he brings more of a physical presence compared to what we have now. We are capable to win a lot further in the year.

Who does he replace? He doesn't make us any better and they have no space for him on this team

We had the opportunity to grab Anthony Stewart as a UFA this offseason, he was someone I suggested going after but didn't seem like Burke was interested (the price tag was very affordable too). I honestly don't see where you can plug him in at this point, our balance is working nicely right now. I understand we could use some more size up front, but putting Stewart on the third or fourth line and forcing someone out of the lineup doesn't make sense at this point. If anything, we could use some size in the top 6, so I still feel given that you wouldn't have to give up much value in a deal, Ryan Malone makes sense. I know many fans (including myself) were advocates of packaging some combination of Grabovski/Schenn/Kadri for an upgrade on the top line, but the way Grabovski's been playing I don't think you can risk trading for a player who might be a downgrade, while downgrading your defense too. Regardless it's awesome to see the team performing at this level and I don't necessarily think we have to make a deal at this point.

Wilson hinted yesterday the monster would start. I'll be surprised if Reimer gets the nod tonight after playing 3 consecutive games, and despite winning last night he did look a little shaky at times. Its good Reimer got back into action and finally got some wins, but i wouldn't play him on the back to back this early. The way monsters been playing i wouldn't want to sit him for too long.

Ah yes, another edition of a "Sh*t _____ say" video lol. This one's not over the top funny but its quite true. My favorite part is when he goes on about the trades .. "did u hear, schenn and kadri for nash.. for getzlaf... for carter" haha

Anyone else think we DON'T have a goaltending issue? I think it's the media just creating storylines. Between Reims and Gustav we've had quality goaltending all year. I guess the issue rises when neither are hot but that hasn't really happened since Dec 2010 I'd say. Both are streaky but when they're streakin' there maing the big saves that are needed. I just feel like there are maybe 15 (top of my head guess) true #1s in the league and the rest are 1b's which is where I put Reims and the Monster. We're not going to be trading for a true #1 b/c those teams are either asking for an arm and a leg or they're untouchable. I look at teams like WAS, PHI, CHI (to a degree) who always have deep playoffs runs without ever really having a true #1. Then you can think of the times when a team rides the back-up goalie on a playoff run (Irbe). I'm confident that if we go into the playoffs with the current tandem, it won't be the reason why we would be eliminated.

True #1s

Rinne (NAS)
Lundqvist (NYR)
Miller (BUF)
Thomas (BOS)
Fleury (PIT)
Howard (DET)
Price (MTL)
Kipursoff (CGY)
Luongo (VAN)
Ward (CAR)
Quick (LAK)
Backstrom (MIN)

Who else do you guys think are legit #1s? As good as Elliott has been this year, I think career consistency is a big component of being a true 1. And I think goalies like Quick should be included b/c he's always had #1 potential just had to get there and seems to be legit.

is it a surprise to anyone that the two best string of games this year have come when the leafs have been at near 100% health? they are playing good hockey...the PK has vastly improved since nov/dec...and if they continue to get solid goaltending from both guys then a playoff berth is all but set in stone, with an outside shot of finishing as high as 4th depending on how they fare on the road this month and into march.

Looking at the goalie list...Team USA has one helluva deep lineup in net. I think Rask would be a solid #1 option if he was just given opportunity. Halak/Elliot I think are both #1 options too

Good news/bad news?

Good news is that Ottawa's slumping and coming back down to earth. the Leafs have 2 games in hand.

Bad news?

Capitals are 1 point back with 1 game in hand on Toronto. Winnipeg is 4 points back but unless they magically get streaky, they won't challenge.
I'd also worry about Buffalo. 8 points back, but they have serious potential to streak and steal a playoff spot. odds are slim, but my gut says to not count them out.

Return to Toronto Maple Leafs
