Clock ticking on Heat's Terrel Harris, Mickell Gladness
" Friday, all NBA contracts become guaranteed for the season. That essentially makes this make-or-break time for end-of-bench rookies Mickell Gladness and Terrel Harris, with each carrying a non-guaranteed contract.
However, because players must clear the 48-hour NBA waiver period, in order for the Heat to avoid a balance-of-the-season commitment, such moves must be made by 6 p.m. Tuesday. The Heat next play Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. against the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers.
Veteran center Eddy Curry is the only other Heat player with a contract yet to be fully guaranteed for the season, but coach Erik Spoelstra has consistently stressed that Curry is viewed as a long-term project by the team."
Monday is the first day teams can begin extending 10-day contracts. Teams may extend up to two per player before such a player must either be released or guaranteed for the balance of the season.

Re: Clock ticking on Heat's Terrel Harris, Mickell Gladness
I really liked Harris.... great defense, never will forget his 14 rebound game lol, can shoot a 3, energetic, etc.
Gladness is just too damn skinny lol, I don't see him staying.
I guess it depends on if Pryzbilla decides to join (which I doubt).

I know hindsight is 50/50 and you cant really predict how young guys perform..but with Miller's resurgence, and JJ seemingly always ready to come in and be effective knocking down open looks, I would've rather seen Battier's money thrown at a Center, and more minutes for Harris

Mickell it was nice knowing you. Best wishes in whatever you do next. Hopefully you don't tell a rival team our strategies.
Bring on Joel Przybilla already! Didn't the media say he will be making his decision by the end of the week? Today is Sunday...
Hope we keep Harris, even though it'll be incredibly tough for him to get minutes here.

I feel this way right now lol. I like Battier a lot. But it's not like he has stone hands. He shouldn't be this bad offensively. He's had more 0 point games than Joel this season. JUST THINK ABOUT THAT.

Re: Clock ticking on Heat's Terrel Harris, Mickell Gladness
LOL. Tbh, I don't think Spo is putting Batteir out there to score, I don't think Spo really plans on giving Battier that many shots. Though, the ones he get that he misses, he should knock down, but can't really blame the guy since Spo really does not run plays for him.
and lol Pryzbilla. I hope his decision comes soon, Joel is becoming more and more useless. Pryzbilla could easily start, we need Anthony's energy off the bench. I have a feeling that, just like Dalembert, Pryzbilla is trolling the Heat front office
.
Gladness will no doubt be cut for him. I think Pryzbilla can start. However, just think about it, if you guys have problems as is with offense of the bench when Shane and Haslem enter the game, imagine the reaction on this board when Shane, Haslem, and Joel Anthony come off the bench at the same time...
dat bench offense.

I thought the Heat had a 14 man roster (i.e. 1 spot open for Pryzbilla should he sign).

Gladness I don't mind seeing him leave, but I liked Harris. He seemed to play good defense and is a good shooter. I know they want to get Juwan a ring, but come on now, I feel like Harris could help out way more than Juwan at any point.

Hopefully we could convince Harris to stay when Juwan leaves next year. It's not really worth it having him on the team if it means never seeing Harris again... unless Pat brings in someone else, like Varnado or whoever Heat have rights to.

Ive seen this happen to Miami one too many times. They cut a player (I don't understand why they'd cut Harris honestly) and he goes onto another team and balls out. If they get Pryzbilla theres truly no need for Howard and Curry, ones got to go.

Re: Clock ticking on Heat's Terrel Harris, Mickell Gladness
^^ Why cut Curry? Why not just cut Gladness?
Harris has looked like a serviceable player during the limited time we've seen him, it doesn't make sense to cut him. I wouldn't mind seeing Howard or Gladness cut, but they aren't going to cut Howard so Gladness seems like the obvious choice. He doesn't provide anything that the combination of JA, Pittman, Curry, or Pryzbilla could provide.

I was saying they wouldn't need Curry if Pryzbilla signs here as well. I don't see what he could offer. I know having another 7 footer is always a plus in the playoffs, but the guy can't do much of anything, unless this is really the LONG term picture and they believe hell be a factor in the playoffs.

Which center would you want for 3 mil?
The only way to get a good one would have been to amnesty Miller (Joel didn't make enough). We MIGHT have been able to get someone for the full-mle but none of them would have come for the mini-mle.
Then we could have signed Battier for the bi-annual (I'm sure if he came for 3 mil, he would have come for 2.5)
I would have rather done that (even with the hindsight of Miller's miraculous shooting)
Battier's offense has been really bad but his defense gets underrated on this board, especially in comparison to Miller.
Plus we IF the plan worked we would have had a good center.

Who are these guys we cut and they go ball out for another team?
I remember people were pissed when San Antonio signed Deshean Butler but they cut him this year.

From the team's Twitter
Looks like Harris is safe (or at least that he'll get his full money). I don't think there's necessarily a follow-up move coming (I'd like there to be), but having that open roster spot can't hurt.
OFFICIAL: The @MiamiHEAT has requested waivers on Mickell Gladness.

I'm glad they kept Harris. I like what he can do for us when we need to go deep on the bench. Hopefully if Battier keeps struggling Harris will get some minutes again.

I forgot what that means, "requested waivers"

Yep, knew Gladness was going to get cut. However, was expecting it to happen at the same times as Joel signing... but that hasn't happened yet. It should be today where he announces where he's going...
