All Star Weekend Rookie/Sophmore Fantasy Draft

Post#1 » by BigSlam » Tue Feb 7, 2012 5:26 pm

Pretty much an exact rip off of what the NHL does for the team selection for their All Star game.

NBA All-Star 2012 will play host to the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge, which will introduce an exciting new format to a game that has historically featured NBA rookies facing off against sophomores. For the first time, rookies and sophomores will be mixed together on teams.

TNT Analysts Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal will serve as the general managers of two opposing teams, each with nine man rosters, consisting of NBA rookies and sophomores drafted from a pool that was previously selected by the NBA’s assistant coaches. Also, TNT’s Kenny Smith will serve as the honorary Commissioner and Ernie Johnson will host the live BBVA Rising Stars Challenge Draft on Thursday, Feb. 16, on NBA TV at 7 p.m. ET.

The pool of players will be announced on Feb. 8, followed by the live BBVA Rising Stars Challenge Draft on Thursday evening, Feb. 16. Fellow TNT Analysts Mike Fratello and Steve Kerr will be part of the coaching staffs for the teams, with Fratello joining TEAM CHUCK and Kerr joining TEAM SHAQ. The Head Coaches for both teams will be the lead assistant coaches from the 2012 NBA All-Star Game coaching staffs.

So, 18 players in total. Who are the locks?

Wall
Turner
Cousins
Monroe
Hayward
George
Crawford
Fields
Irving
Williams
Kanter
Knight
Shumpert
Brooks
Cole
Parsons
Walker
Biyombo

Can our two sneak in?

If my picks are the 18, I would love the two teams to be:

Wall - Kemba
Brooks - Shumpert
Fields - Hayward
Williams
Cousins - Kanter

Irving - Knight
Turner - Cole
George - Crawford
Parsons
Monroe - Biyombo

Oops!! Good point Mr Dew. I only looked at the last two draft classes and forgot all about Rubio.

He would obviously be in. I guess it just comes down to at the cost of who?

Knight
Cole
Shumpert

????

Myabe Cole gets dropped?

Wall - Kemba
Brooks - Shumpert
Fields - Hayward
Williams
Cousins - Kanter

Irving - Rubio
Turner - Knight
George - Crawford
Parsons
Monroe - Biyombo

I have a feeling that Charles will be much better at this drafting thing than Shaq.

i have a gut feeling that biz will get the shaft. not enough buzz about him. if biz played for the knicks he would be in talks for all-rookie team. the only thing going in his favor is the lack of good bigs. i think favors will get the nod, just because of his draft position though.

I think Cole loses his spot. Kemba is more exciting right now, even though he's on the Bobcats.

He drafted AI first overall (ahead of MJ, Bird, etc.) for an "All time best All star" or whatever draft on TNT/ESPN whatever.

Forgivable. Allen Iverson is a boss among bosses.

Shaq takes Biz, Charles takes Kemba.

I think Biyombo has a 5% chance of making the cut.

Oh, you forgot about Gary Neal. He's technically a sophomore.

Well, yes, that was a terrible mistake... But Charles has really improved as an analyst. At first, he didn't seem to be much of an expert, however now he could be the smartest guy NBA wise on Inside the NBA. He was on point with almost all predictions during the last playoffs.

While Shaq is as smart as a 12 year kid who simply loves dunks and exciting plays. You get three things out of him on the show:

1) Idiotic sounds/yelling (e.g. "Yak yak!")

2) When asked for his opinion, he'll say that the season still is early, so he drifts off for something he considers entertainment (e.g. Ernie asks him if Atlanta is for real, are they a contender. Shaq: "I don't know, you can't tell a lot after the first 15 games, but I know one thing - Tracy McGrady is out there repping the old people! WAY TO GO T-MAC!!! REPRESENT THE OLD PEOPLE!!!")

3) When asked for his opinion, he'll be unsure, so simply will say that the team can do damage in spring. (e.g. Ernie asks him if Utah is for real, are they a contender. Shaq: "I don't know, you can't tell a lot after the first 15 games, but I think that they will be able to cause some damage late in the year."

I expect him to draft an exciting, yet bad roster.

I think you guys are overlooking the fact that both Charles and Shaq will both be drafting from a pool of already chosen rookie/sophs. A lot of brain power will not be required as neither guy is noted for their scholarly demeanor.

If I was going for a real game, Monroe.
Exhibition game? Wall.
