Any New Info On the New Arena?

Post#1 » by VeeJay24 » Tue Feb 7, 2012 5:29 pm

Haven't heard anything in a while just wandering if any of our fans in Sacramento heard anything? Is there any progress? Can anyone predict if the citizens are feeling it or should everyone worry. I thought it would be a good time to ask with the news in the Bee that Seattle may be targeting the Kings to put in a newly built arena. I know it is silly when they had a team and only had to build it an arena to prevent them from relocating but I am a little concern. The Kings belong in Sacramento!

We are waiting for the contract for the parking deal to be completed and companies to submit their bids. I believe they are expecting a minimum of 185M. It's just a wait and see. I can say this, there was no better time for this winning streak - especially if we can beat the Wolves. Thursday nights game will carry some energy for the rest of the league to see.

The city council will most likely decide on Tuesday the 14th. Show up to the meeting and lend your support if you can. Contact SacTownMike4076(I think that's it, I might've messed up the numbers in the name) on twitter if you want to show up. He's bringing a pretty big group of people to support the plan.

The city council just rejected Sandy Sheedy's proposal to put the parking lease to a vote on the June ballot, which is great news. The bad news is that the vote was 5 to 4, so we came within one swing vote of game over, goodbye Kings. Now we just have to hope that at the minimum, those 5 no votes translate to 5 yes votes when they actually vote on whether or not to proceed with leasing the parking. I'm still cautiously optimistic, but much less so than I was, as no one expected tonight's vote to be so close.

Yeah, it's being built in Seattle. 8-)

I'm confused about this. Was putting it to a vote on the ballot a bad thing?

If you want to keep the Kings it is a bad thing. People lack vision, meaning they see some rich people get helped with public funds, get pissed and want none of it. What they do not realize is that if they invest a dollar in this, over time not only will they be payed back, but will eventually make revenue from a long term investment.

this vote would of killed the arena and been the end of the kings in Sacramento.

1) the voters will not approve the plan

2) the vote would be in June which is well past the march 1st deadline.
that the funding must be in place by also killing the deal.

we are one swing vote from losing this team.

Although exact figures are yet to be established, a source has shared with Cowbell Kingdom that the city is looking for roughly $80 million from the league and team.

Surprised this issue isn't picking up steam on this board. The big wigs (Mayor, Stern, Maloof Family, and Clay Bennent) are all meeting at 3PM EST (?) to negotiate (or decline) an arena deal. It's reported that Sacramento is requesting 70-90 million from the Maloofs upfront; however, 25 million would be from land that the Maloofs own in Natomas.

Ryan_Lillis George Maloof on #NBAKings #arena negotiations: 'We'll see what they have, it's a hard deal.' Said family got terms four days ago.

ORLANDO, Fla. - NBA Commissioner David Stern, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver and four members of the relocation committee, emerged from behind closed doors at 4:46 local time. Stern and the four owners - Glen Taylor (Minnesota Timberwolves), Clay Bennett (Oklahoma City), Mickey Arison (Miami) and Greg Miller (Utah Jazz) - were off to a board of governors meeting at the Amway Center. Stern said he planned to attend tonight's All-Star Game and then return to the hotel and rejoin the meeting. He said the good news is "we're still talking."

I hoped that we'll somehow kick the Maloofs out and get Burkle, but first priority is to stay in sac, even though I don't even live in the US.

Hopefully this is all settled soon - I understand theres a few more steps along the way before we really start to celebrate - but this seems pretty darn close! :D I mean Stern was talkin about All-Star in Sactown, lol.

The key to getting this done is The Maloofs bringing 80 million to the table. If they can come up with their share we are stuck with them & bad team for a while.
