What's Wrong with Durant's FT and Perimeter Shooting?

Post#1 » by MASH Transit » Sun Feb 5, 2012 7:22 pm

In a season where Durant has been playing as good or better than he ever has, he's struggling(Relative to himself) from the line and from three.

He's shooting 33% from three. 3 percentage points below his career average, and 9 percentage points below his career high. And he's shooting 80% from the line. 7 percentage points below his career average, and 10 below his career high.

If he were able to get these numbers to his career averages, his TS%, which is currently .60%, would experience a sizable boost. As it stands, his efficiency has been carried by his conversion rate of 2pt field goals. He's shooting 56% on shots inside the arc.

My question is, what's the deal? Is the sample size too small to worry myself with, or have we seen enough to warrant concern? Is it mental, or it it in his mechanics? Will his shooting become better as the season drags on? Etc.

I think it's because he has been focusing more on his mid range game and post ups. I don't have any worries about his ft shooting long term though. I just wish he was more aggressive, the guy is too laid back at times and it holds him back from him being as good as he could be.

This also stems from being physically exhausted. At times this season he's looked just beat up, which is very understandable.
