Thought it would be fun to see y'all's thoughts on this.
According to s-r, Davis currently has a PER of 35.3 and he's getting 0.418 WS/40 minutes which means he'll break the highest WS score they've ever recorded (Kevin Love if Kentucky just gets far enough in the tourney. Granted this data doesn't go back in history as well as we'd all like.
I find this really interesting for a couple reasons. One being I was expecting Davis to be much more of a work-in-progress guy who didn't really dominate at the college level. Also though, there seems to be a pretty significant contingent of people who seem skeptical about Davis because of his lack of volume scoring. For me it's hard for me to get my head around such criticisms when Davis is doing well enough in stats like these to argue he's an all-timer at the college level and no one seems to think his size and athleticism will fail to be an outlier even at the NBA level.
Am I too optimistic?

I don't think so. I'm a bit late to the party here, but I'm ga-ga over this kid. 6'10 with a 7'4 wingspan, and he he has an incredible build (look at those shoulders!). His defense presence is utterly elite, and you can tell that he'll be able to score in a myriad of ways. When I first heard about him, I was skeptical too, but good lord, do the early returns ever look good. I truly believe this kid will be a revelation. He has the sort of frame where he can put on good weight, and he has a game that allows him to play virtually any position on the court. He'll clearly be the #1 pick, and whoever gets it will instantly be relevant.

He really reminds me of Tyson Chandler..... But my eyes are bad at the college level.

It does seem Davis will be a great NBA player. The one game where Kentucky lost this year, Indiana had Davis on the bench in foul trouble. Kentucky doesn't lose that game with him on the floor the whole game. We may have seen Kentucky go undefeated, if not for that. By the way this guy runs the floor and handles the ball better than Tyson Chandler. His defense does resemble Tyson, though.
I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying Michael Jordan

Re: Anthony Davis and advanced college stats
You are not too optimistic at all. The reason why he is not scoring on offense at times is due to his lack of physical development. That's it. Defensively, he has the best awareness that I have seen for a big at the college level. Absolutely the most dominant player in a couple of decades.
Offensively, there is room for growth and he is scoring at a highly efficient rate. It's no surprise that the stats jive with the eye test on this one.
