Happy Steve Nash Day! (/Appreciation Thread)

Post#1 » by rsavaj » Tue Feb 7, 2012 11:25 pm

Amidst all the "Free Steve Nash" chants and the numerous "Trade Steve Nash" threads, I thought we should take some time to appreciate our MVP who turns 38 years old today. It's remarkable that he's still doing what he's doing, and we've been privileged and spoiled to watch one of the greatest players in NBA history work his magic on our home floor over the past 7 years.

Impulsenine had a quote in his signature a while back that read:

"Ultimately, I'm glad to be a Phoenix Suns fan. It's a relationship complicated by heartbreak and disappointment, but made healthy by their strength of conviction in their work and in what is right; in small ways, through them, I gain that conviction."

Steve Nash embodies that quote fully for me. He is an amazing point guard and an inspiration as a person for his philanthropic works around the world and in the Phoenix community.

Happy Birthday to The Most Ridiculous Man in The World

The man who made me a Phoenix Suns fan by running the most exciting basketball style I've ever seen. Still balling like a boss at 38 years old and an example of work ethic. The man is all class from top to bottom and his loyalty is something so unusual in the present times.

The main reason why I'm up at 3.30 am and have been many times in my life.

Happy B-Day Steve, hoping the best for the remainder of your personal life and career. You deserve everything!

Happy birthday Mr. Nash. Great shot to win the game tonight. Incredible that he's still putting up 15 and 10 at this age. I think it's safe to say that he's surprised even his biggest fans.

Great player off and on the court. How can anyone hate this guy? He does everything you want a player to do. So he doesn't play the best defense out there but thats because he uses most of his energy on offense controlling the ball for 15+ seconds. It's a shame if he doesn't get invited to the all-star game, nobody at his age does what he does. Stockton, Jackson and Kidd weren't even close to averaging double double at 38 years of age.

Happy Birthday you living LEGEND!

That assist btw is by far the sickest combination of skill / misdirection / teabagging the defense ever. The fact that it was done vs the Lakers is just gravy

Luke Walton is like: Where's the ball? Oh wait...

I remember, when I lived in Boston with my wife, I took her to watch our first basketball game together, and she obviously rooted for the Celtics (not because we were in Boston, but because I rooted for the Suns...yes, that is marriage).

Phoenix won that game (2009-2010 season, when Celtics went all the way to the Finals), after struggling behind most of the time. I remember when we started catching up with another wonder performance of Nash, when she, still a relative ignorant on the game, asked me:

"who is that goddamn' Atomic Ant destroying my team???" (old cartoon, not sure you'll all be familiar with it)

I laughed a lot with the comparison, and finally answered:

"Well, my love, that is the greatest basketball player u'll ever see playing live"

Nash. The guy is still bringing it to the court. My favorite player ever, by far.

Happy belated...

I wouldn't trade all the Nash memories for a title in those same years, just too amazing to watch as it was - plus arguably we had teams that could have easily won a title if x, y, and z hadn't screwed us up. Anyway, he created a basketball era for us that not every team will ever be able to rival. I wish the best for him, whatever that may mean.

Happy belated.

Didn't realize they guy was shooting 56%!!! from the field. I just assumed he was hovering around 50% (not that that isn't super impressive). 56/46/87 is insane.

Happy belated. Just a great example of a professional athlete. Hopefully his reputation as such is satisfying enough for him should he not get a ring.

Steve Bionic Nash the best passing point guard to ever put on a Suns uniform and he is 38 years old and still playing at a very high level . Its to bad each time he was close to helping the Suns to win the overrated NBA championship something always got in the way Sarver more times than not , David Stern a few times , and Dantoni and Gentry a hell of a lot. Thanks Steve Nash for making the game exciting to watch .

I'm not ashamed to admit that a 14 year old Orange_Blooded cried a little on NBA Draft Night 1998 at the news of Steve Nash being traded to the Mavs (Okay, I am a little ashamed).

Luckily for us, Mark Cuban decided Nash was washed up at 30. Hopefully we can find a way to have Nash retire as a Sun... I'd hate to have to cry again.
