Anybody else sensing this "Linsanity" has reached a tipping point, and is now just getting overblown? (I can see why some fans stop listening to underground artist once they get really famous.) It's a great story and he's had an unbelievable impact on how the Knicks play, but the national media has taken it over the top, as if they are building him up just to watch him fall down to earth... hard.

He still has a lot of things to improve in his game before he should get THIS much hype, as improbable as his story may be. How many games does he have to play well, before they just realize that he's a good young player with nice potential to improve rather than some "scrub" just getting lucky?

And the Chinese/Taiwanese fans hyping it up even more just makes it unbearable. I don't like any player having a cult following almost solely based on their race or ethnicity. If this was Shumpert, you won't have a poster named (insert stereotypical African American food in all caps)STYLE spamming the boards with every inconceivable Shumpert video/article known to man.

Let's calm this down.

Yeah. The Knicks may not always know how to build a great basketball team, but they certainly know how to monetize. Lin makes around 700K this season. Dolan will probably make $10M on his back.

It's getting out of control, god forbid he has a bad game or a bad stretch....

He's getting overhyped right now, he's not a "star" but a good PG and the media is labeling his as some sort of elite player.

I don't disagree that Linsanity has jumped the shark, but that's not a fair comparison. If Shumpert was one of the the first African Americans to explode into the NBA, he'd get a similar response from African American fans. Or if the NBA was already dominated by Asian Americans, then you wouldn't get all the Asian bandwagoners either.

Linsanity is way beyond just a cultural phenomenon. It's more about the underdog that no one believed could make it in the NBA, and has shattered everyone's expectations. Yao Ming didn't get this much hype, because he was expected to be an NBA star, being a 7'6" center who could shoot from outside.

I understand pre-Lin Knicks fans being tired of the hype. But that's the social/media culture these days, hype something to the extreme for a couple days or weeks, then move on to the next thing. We just have to deal with it for the time being, and it'll eventually fade away.

The reality is nobody can predict or control anything like this. In another week, the buzz will be based on how he plays the next three games after blazing in his first three. If he continues his torrid pace, no amount of counsel to stay calm will result in any less noise. If his effectiveness drops considerably or the team doesn't win some of those games, then it will take care of itself. Nothing to do about it other than be a spectator. Get your pretzels hee-yah!

This kind of sh*t terrifies me- even though the sky is blue, it always feels like a storm is just over the horizon when you're Knicks fan.
