You had to remind us didn't you . . . sigh. The administration was still defending the Kenny Green pick over Karl Malone at this time in Malone's rookie year too.

Wow, it was an easy call for Wiz board members an anyway. Painful to read so-many guys making the right call on Ves.

Am I defending Ves too much now to say "I told you so" now?
Leonard is still getting real (and productive) minutes on the Spurs... and heck, he's shooting 33% from 3 point range!

Re: Poll: Which Player Should Not Be Selected?
I understand that people aren't happy with how Vesely is playing, but looking at that group, it seems that there was really nothing to pick from. I mean, who's the best there? Leonard? I get the feeling we won't regret passing on any of those guys, even if Vesely is a complete train wreck.
In hindsight, it seems the best move would have been to package #6 and the Singleton pick for pick(s) in this year's draft.

Re: Poll: Which Player Should Not Be Selected?
Not me. Greg Popovich loves Kawhi Leonard's defense and he has started games for SA. Biyombo plays Dwight Howard much better than Javale McGee, and is starting now. Players drafted later than Jan Vesely, like Brandon Knight, Markieff Morris, Marshon Brooks, and Iman Shumpert have all started games.
The Wizards passed on several players who could have helped on offense. Klay Thompson, Tobias Harris, Jon Leuer, and Chandler Parsons either shoot and/or pass well.
Vesely is a player i will give time, but there are many other picks that would have paid more immediate good results for Washington. I haven't mentioned Kenneth Faried, but he's way better than Vesely IMO.
A later pick that would have made a ton of sense was JaJuan Johnson. Good to great offensive player at PF.

Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.

Biyombo is terrible.
Again, out of that group (i.e. players that could have been realistically selected), Leonard's the best one, and he's an average player at this point.
No impact players, no one that looks like a budding star.

It remains to be seen who is the best out of who was available that night, but I would have been happy with any of them except Biyombo over Vesely, even more-so now that Young will walk for nothing in return.
Walker
Knight
Thompson
The Morris brothers
Leonard
All of these ^ guys would be better pieces to build-with alongside Wall over Vesely.

Good thread & epic bump.
I voted Montiejunas, can you please explain why Biyombo is terrible??

I heard Biyombo has been playing pretty well in limited minutes, but i wasn't in favor of the Wizards taking him. I think he's a huge project, and I wouldn't have taken him in the lottery.

He's playing very well in not so limited minutes, his last game against Toronto he had 8/13/7 & only one foul in 32 minutes.
I think if the draft was redone tomorrow he'd have a case to be the #2 pick.
That sounds extreme but it's reality for a 19yr old defensive freak center.

I'm nearly positive that if that draft was re-done Jonas would be selected around 1 - 5. San Antonio wanted to trade Parker to Toronto in order to move up and draft Valanciunas. They saw he had a PER that's through the roof .I know many people havnt seen him play. But I think hes the real deal in tems of a center prospect.

Also I read 2 weeks ago, I can't find the article atm, he was voted FIBA Young men European player of the year of 2011. Runner Ups were Nicola Mirotic and Enes Kanter. http://www.fibaeurope.com/viewNewslette ... 5B5B5DF%7D - found it

I wish Jonas had fallen one more spot to 6th so the Wiz could have gotten him

Tony Parker is in the discussion for MVP, he is playing GREAT basketball. The Spurs would have been stupid to trade him IMO, he'll be 30 at the end of the season and he is a PG that can play well for years to come with his improved shooting and he's still quick as hell.
As far as the 2011 draft. I would have been happy with Leonard and Faried

11.71 PER. Not much skill outside of dunking. Ok rebounder, but nothing special.

Re: Poll: Which Player Should Not Be Selected?
whew, I thought y'all had started a thread for this year's upcoming draft . . . after Vesely was the choice last year and the fans were right again (hello Kenny Green!), I didn't want to see this year's draft jinxed too.
