Because he has JJ Hickson, Jason Thompson, Chuck Hayes, and Demarcus Cousins all in front of him. Because he doesn't do anything at NBA level besides black shots. He needs more time to learn.

Re: Hassan Whiteside
Well for starters I believe he is inactive.
They called him up for a couple of reasons, one to learn Smart's system, and two because I am assuming he is a practice asset. In practice I am sure beyond improving his game his shot blocking skills are very handy in learning and running team offense for the others.
He will remain inactive most likely until he is no longer a practice asset, and learns Smart's system. Once this happens back to D league barring team injury.
Next year I'm afraid.

Re: Hassan Whiteside
Saw one of his D-league games the other day. One thing we saw during preseason was Westphal trying to get him to work in the post and do things that he really isn't known for. I understand trying to make a player as good as possible and working on what they can't do, but what about using what they can do? Hassan looked like he can add something to a team. He's a unique asset as a lob player. He's so long and gets off the floor pretty quick that he is usually finished jamming the ball before any defender can challenge the shot. At some point you have to say he is what he is, and that just happens to be what this team can use. For at least 5 minutes a game for petes sake! Shotblockers are the only type of player you can play 5 minutes a game and you don't destroy them, and they don't destroy you.

Celtics fan here. I liked Whiteside prior to the draft and would have liked to see the Cs get him. Sounds like you guys aren't too wild about him. I'm hoping you guys get Drummond in the draft and the Celtics could take him off your hands for a second round pick or 2. Stiemsma, Sean Williams, and Whiteside would be quite the shot blocking trio (like D-league hall of fame for shot blocking).

Re: Hassan Whiteside
He actually got some playing time after this thread, and was....okay. Bad at times, pretty good at others. I'll be open to trading him if we get another shotblocking presence, but probably as part of a bigger deal.

Re: Hassan Whiteside
Summer League will help Hassan alot. He''s the type of player that needs constant guidance, and last year's lockout with zero contact with the coaches hurt him a lot.
He does seem to be a bit injury prone, so that would be something to monitor.
