They're going to make the playoffs which means we'll be using it this year.

I think this is a very realistic scenario, however, nothing is going to happen until the Dwight Howard domino falls. Once that happens, you'll see all these rumored trades/signings come into play (Calderon, Sessions, Rondo, Arenas, etc). Until then, we're not giving out our two first round picks, we're not giving out the trade exception and we're definitely not giving up Gasol or Andrew.

I firmly believe Dwight Howard is priority number 1 right now and Deron Williams is 1B because of the fact New Jersey isn't going to trade him until the Howard situation is settled. After that - I could definitely see trading the exception and the Mavs pick for Calderon/Sessions or something of that nature. We have some deals waiting in the wings most likely right now and if all of a sudden Otis Smith comes out on deadline day and says, "I'm keeping/trading Dwight" and we don't land him, we'll move to other plans.

And the trade exception is for 8.9 million. I'm pretty sure the 25% rule doesn't come in hand with trade exceptions.. so that limits Calderon (9.7m).

So if the Raptors want to give out Calderon, they'd have to take some sort of combination of Luke/Ron/Blake along with the pick of course.

The trade I'd offer would be Luke, Barnes, n their choice of Morris / ebanks/ future 2nd. Luke n Jose both have trade kickers. Luke would invoke his, but Jose would waive his to play here. Toronto was interested n Barnes n summer of 2010, and has been rumored to be lookn for sf help. There is also 4 million plus savings Toronto would save next yr, as next yr they'd both expire, and toronto has been lookn to move him for years. Does either team do it, idk, but I surely wouldn't put a 1st n a deal for Jose .

From a Toronto perspective most of us want something like this

Blake, Walton + 2 1sts (LAL, Dallas) for Jose
(also would be ok with 1 first and Devin Ebanks, while you take Rasual Butlers 1 year deal)

Would also be willing to add Barbosa for a package like

Metta, Blake + 2 1st's for Jose
Barbs for TPE
(Again you can use Ebanks in place of one 1st)

I dont see these as being unfair to either side, both teams get what they want (LAL get their pg and a scoring sg/sf to help take some load off Kobe) (TOR gets picks while taking on Walton or Blakes contract.. Metta would be more of a cap balast.)

I dont blame you, I wouldnt either.. Your team is in 'ship contention and the price for that push, trade wise from another team is picks. There is no way BC is going to hand over the two best or best player in a deal with LA and not want pick or picks coming back. Now if the discussion was around making us better at the same time with players like McRoberts coming back.. then picks might come out of the discussion.

We want to have as many 2012 1sts as possible... if we luck out in the lottery having the three picks become an amazing bartering tool in potentially moving higher this year.

With the way he's been playing, you think he'd count as "help?"

Even Colangelo isn't that stupid.

I would love Jose, but only as others have said. Ending contracts and future second round picks. I do not give up any core players or first rounders.

that isn't ever going to happen. it would take 2 late first round picks to get him and he is one of the best pick and roll playmaker. he is an excellent shooter. he would be perfect for andrew bynum and pau gasol and at the same time allow kobe to hog the ball because he knows his role and it wouldallow you to dump two contracts to toronto. your time is now or never. if you don't win in the next four years, its over for you guys. once pau gasol and kobe retire, andrew bynum is going to have to carry your team and he isn;t good enough to do. you will be miluakee good. out of the playoffs but too good to land an impact player in the draft.

he stinks on D, holds the ball too much, needs the pick and pop to be more efficient and would be owned 11 millions if traded to the lakers... Mitch needs to be sure he have no chance to get D12/Deron before signing him.

But yes, he's 500x better than fish.

the only reason he holds the ball too much is because no one in toronto an handle the ball. our second best ball handler is derozan/james johnson and if you have ever seen them handle the ball, it is ugly.he would be owed 11 milllion but then you would be able to dump eleven million to us. say derek fisher and luke walton, etc.. and lets face it, you guys aren't going to get deron or dwight. whatever you give for dwight, new jersey would top that. andrew bynum < marshon brooks, top 5 pick in 2012 draft, brook lopez, unless you would give gasol but that would destroy your team and deron williams wouldn't be traded to your team unless you give up andrew bynum

you have everything covered, don't you? I already discussed about José with raps fans for 5 pages on the GB. I don't want to do that again.

José is not the piece that would makes us beat miami/bulls in the finals.

I believe Mitch would have to cover everything before committing our near future with José.

If the deadline hits and no allstar forces his way onto your team like your used to the gm should accept two 25-30 picks and a fisher/walton filler for calderon. Hes a vast improvement if you dont try to improve your weakest position kobe may as well retire and go into rebuild mode. Theres two much overrating 25-30 draft picks and underating the lakers last chance for a championship run in this thread. No way pheonix does this deal.
