Wolves "Dangling" Williams in Possible P. Gasol Trade?

Post#1 » by Klomp » Thu Feb 16, 2012 4:33 am

In other news involving NBA big men, a source said Wednesday that Minnesota continues to pursue a possible trade for Lakers forward Pau Gasol, dangling rookie Derrick Williams, who is from the Los Angeles area, and draft choices. The only players considered untouchable by the Timberwolves, who are seeking to add a veteran by the trade deadline, are Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio. The Timberwolves believe it could be enticing for Gasol to play on the same team as fellow Spaniard Rubio.

If true, thats just stupid. If we are going to trade Williams, I want to trade him for a wing player. That is where we absolutely suck balls. Its stupid to make 1 of our 3 good players a back up

I wonder if they'll throw in Walton to help our young players learn the triangle?

I call BS on this. The filler needed to get him here would gut out team, and with Pek starting to emerge, Pie is right, the next piece we need to go after needs to be a wing. We haven't always gone with logical moves in the past, but with the Wolves competitive on most nights, just about anyone who can play the 2/3 and we are golden.

Re: Pau rumors: Wolves have long been interested, but feeling I get from talking to people is a big deal at deadline is unlikely.

Kahn mentioned this already (no big deals at deadline) but a deal like this could be put on ice. My only concern is that we'll move Williams for a big like Gasol when clearly we should be dangling him for a SG.

I'd much rather get a wing as everyone else is saying. Gasol is a little old, plus he'd take time from Love/Pek who have been 2 of the 3 best players this year.

The only way that this rumor would make any sense at all is if the reporter got the names wrong and it's actually Marc that we're interested in.

I have no problems moving Williams for a solid piece but Gasol will be 32 this summer. To me this would be a Kahn desperation move. I wonder if his job is in jeopardy unlesss we make the playoffs.

Also like others have said, we still wouldnt be an upper echelon team because are wings would be so bad and we really wohldnt have any other assets to move or any salary cap flexibility because of Gasol's huge contract. This doesnt pass the smell test.

Hmm don't know about a Williams for Gasol trade. In the short term a team of Love/Gasol/Rubio would be a playoff team and possible contender. But on the other hand Pek has shown over the last few weeks that he can be a legit starting center in the league and DW hasn't really been give his time to shine yet, dude still could be a all-star type player.

Not against have Pau Gasol on the team sense he would give us a veteran that still has gas left in the tank and is a 2X World Champion. But I would try and bait the Lakers into a possible deal around Beasley first, which is 99% chance of the Lakers not taking the bait.

Unless we can move Pek for a big upgrade on the wings, I'm not convinced that that lineup is even better than what we have now.

I'm against both the original trade and dunkonu's trade. Beas, Wiliams, Pek, and a 1st for Gasol and Redick? We'd be a perenial 7th seed at best.

We might be an 8th seed with this team...I'm pretty sure that makes us better getting rid of a couple chuckers, adding a top 10 center and filling our biggest hole...

I want none of a Pau trade at all. If we're trading Williams it only makes sense we get a SG, Pekovic has proven he can be a legit starting center already.

Pao makes us better, can't question that. I'm with ya, figure out a way to get a nice outside shooter as well and we are on to something
