3-point contest: Joe Johnson

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Thu Feb 16, 2012 4:29 pm

Joe Johnson will take part in the 3-point contest.

Mario Chalmers, Ryan Anderson, Kevin Love, Anthony Morrow and defending champion James Jones.

Joe is a set shooter and that lends itself well to these type of events.

But honestly, the fact that Curry or Rush aren't in it make this whole thing laughable to me.

Feels like the NBA trying to trim costs. They probably went through the All-Star rosters offering a spot in the contest until someone took it and it was Joe.

Beginning to think that Joe is single mindedly focused on money, they do get paid for these appearances after all. He's balls out for an All Star selection but then goes into a coma until it's time for the next extra check.

I think what Dallas mentioned is correct. The NBA seems to be trimming cost and Joe is already going to be there for the All-Star game.

I agree he did this last year. Played well until he got selected then went back to sleep. As much as I dislike Smith's decision making I think Joe is just as much the bad apple to this team's nonchalant attitude when things get rough.

the 3-point contest is like the "who cares competition"

big names will occasionally join, but the list of winners just end up being a list of scrubs. even Nash couldn't win this thing, so who cares.

There are far more big names in the 3 point contest than they are the dunk contest so I don't know about occasional. Just off the top of my head I can remember Dirk, Nash, Pierce, Allen, Durant, Billups, Granger, RIP, Arenas, etc participating numerous time over the past 5 years. Outside of Joe and Love this has to be the weakest group in the past decade in terms of star power.

im not talking about participants, i'm talking about contest winners.

what i like about the dunk contest, it not only gives great high light clips, but the majority of the time, the better overall basketball player ends up winning. unlike the 3pt contest, were scrubs beat stars all the time.

Agreed. He is a selfish ignorant player that won't do anything good for the team unless he gets paid for it. He's not getting paid to be a leader in the locker room, he's not getting paid to put more fans in the seats, he's not getting paid to win.

He's getting paid for his talent on the court and he has gotten it down to a science where he knows when to play quality ball and when to tank it. He only plays quality ball when the paycheck is worth the extra work (his contract doesn't count as that is already guaranteed money).

Remember last year (or was it the year before) when Joe did the horse competition at the AS Break? Same situation this year with the 3pt Competition. What a greedy bum... I'd rather have a 1/2 as talented player that was a leader in the locker room who actually cared about winning over the talented JJ who only shows up for 1/2 the games and is a cancer to the organization.

Bull ****. The dunk contest is the biggest travesty over the past few years, good dunks don't win, **** clowns throwing on capes or midgets that can touch the rim after 50 tries win because of hype and it's a fun story. The 3 point shootout guys actually win on skill, the dunk contest guys win based on their ability to jump over the front fender of a car rather than anything dunk wise they actually do.

I agree with everything you said, Dwight got a 50 a few years ago for throwing on a cape? Javale Mcgee got robbed last year because of all the Griffin hype, Griffin had the contest won before the start because of all the hype. The Dunk contest is serious Bull S*it.
