The Orlando Magic, however, will not be among Smith's suitors. The Orlando Sentinel reports that though Smith listed the Magic as a potential destination in a coy tweet, Orlando GM Otis Smith said that the team, despite its perimeter scoring trouble, is not interested in the guard.

There goes that

Signing JR Smith would be redundant. JJ >>> JR Smith.

honestly the magic are 1 monta ellis away from actually contending. Jr would have been nice but I would be way more disappointed to know that the magic were not trying to get ellis. Kaman seems to be the only viable way of getting that deal through.

That would be a great pick up for the Knicks. They are going to be a dangerous team come playoff time

exactly how?

JR more athletic, can drive and create his own shot, the type of player that could get hot and go for 30+ in a night. JJ is none of those things.

JJ brings intelligence to the table, players harder on defense and knows his role better. JR Smith is more talented than Redick, but I'd take JJ every day of the week.

Ya, these guys could be the most offensively potent team in the NBA.
And should jr and melo focus on defense, they have tr ability to be tops there as well.
Still think a better move for them is to get a proven lockdown defender at the 2, they have enough offense.

Otis had to pass on JR because he's got something much bigger in the works for March.

To be honest, I think I kinda "like this team". After convincing wins over Indy, Lakers, Philly, Portland, Miami...and then losing to 3 very good teams in OT (Spurs on 3rd night of back-back-back, Clippers, and Hawks), I don't see why we can't hold our own against the top teams. Can we make some moves to improve? Of course, but I don't think by any means we can't make some noise in the playoffs if we are clicking on all cylinders.

And I agree with this as well. The biggest reason to trade up for a couple new pieces would be unfortunately to pacify Sir Dwight.

I think everyone here forgot about that Francis/Mobley type love affair that Smith and Anthony have with each other. I would hate to be a Knick fan. As soon as they get a real point guard, Carmelo gets healthy and they sign JR to break plays and run isos.

I like this team at times as well. Im sure we all do, but you have to remember EVERYTHING slows down in the playoffs & we only have 1 freaking guy who can get his shot by breaking down a defense and that's Meer (not counting Wafer cause he wont see the floor). We were just in this situation last year & I really don't wanna have to stroll in to the playoffs with basically the same exact team who got bounced in the first round last year.

Just look what happened when we played the Celtics twice & the Hawks. SHUTDOWN! You are kidding yourself if that wont happen in the playoffs when everything slows way down & we are forced to have to
create shots.

Unless Dwight starts playing like the beast he is capable of & demands the double team & Meer can average about 8 assists a game I really can't see this team going that far. If we could get that ONE player who can get to rim consistently *cough* MONTA *cough* this team would become extremely dangerous. When our players attack the rack 1 of 2 things usually ALWAYS happens, 1) they get a easy layup because big man don't wanna leave dwight or 2) big man does leave Dwight & Dwight gets a easy putback.

Those are the easy buckets we need in the playoffs & we see Meer do it from time to time with his easy layups but not nearly enough.

The truth is we have a good team, but it needs to be great. We lack a true second option to Dwight or a point guard that is impossible to keep out of the paint. Until we get that we will be no better than 3/4 in the east. Right now, if Ellis is out of the question as Warrior fans keep assuring me then we HAVE to get Steve Nash and do so without giving up Ryan Anderson.
