Shocker!
Wonder of wonders, the NBA has managed to find a spot for the New York Knicks’ certified phenomenon Jeremy Lin at All-Star Weekend.

Thanks to the Commissioner David Stern, who stepped in to right this injustice and not simply to get more publicity for the weekend, Lin will bring Linsanity to Orlando at the end of the month. He’ll participate in the Haier shooting stars competition Feb. 25 and, more importantly, will be eligible to help teammate Iman Shumpert compete in the slam-dunk contest later that night.

Eric Musselman. Who would be another solid choice of coach for this developing roster. He's got an excellent track record for developing players. I really enjoyed his coaching blog some years back: http://emuss.blogspot.com/

Wasn't he Gilbert's first coach in Golden State? A bit of fiery guy if I remember correctly.

Coach wise, I'd want a teacher first and a disciplinarian second. If he fits both, then he's a good candidate.

And Stern wonders why refs are corrupt and there's a sense of favoritism to big market teams. What a tool. Would Lin have gotten the special invite if he was doing this in Memphis? Hell no. Stern pleaded for an equal playing field in the labor negotiations and this move completely supports why players want to force their way to big market teams.

I'm sorry, but what's the problem with having Lin participate in All-Star weekend events? He's a sensation right now. Fans want to see him. I don't see the problem.

Jive issues appears to be the perception that Lin would not get the nod if he was an equally exciting, talked about sensation playing in a small market.

*shrug* Not sure if that's true. It's hard to project that because this kind of thing just hasn't ever happened before. Given his insane popularity with non-NY fans, I'd lean towards this happening regardless of where he was playing.

That may be true but after a messy lockout this Linsanity is like catching lightning in a bottle. It would be foolish not to try and take advantage of it.

Illuminaire's right. Stern's move has more to do with his ability to attract non-fans. My mom asked me about Jeremy Lin yesterday. Last Sunday my church's sermon was about Jeremy Lin. There are rumors that Kim Kardashian wants to date him. I'm pretty sure all of this would happen even if he was leading Charlotte to a 7 game win streak, besting Kobe along the way, setting 1st-five-starts scoring records along the way. [read: it's because he's asian, not because he's on the knicks]

Several hours after the Knicks' Lin-spired winning streak was snapped by the New Orleans Hornets, ESPN ran the headline "Chink In The Armor" to accompany the game story on mobile devices.

You got my point. It has nothing to do with what the fans want to see. It entirely to do with the perception this creates. Other players in the league will take note that if you become a sensation in a big market like NY, then the league will go out of their way to promote you and you will be that much more marketable. A guy like Brandon Jennings playing in Milwaukee is not part of any all-star activities. Do you think he's not going to factor this into his upcoming decision in FA? Considering small v big markets was such a big issue in the labor talks, this only fuels the fire. While this is great for the fans and great for league popularity, this is bad for the message the league wants to send and for creating parity in the NBA.
