Can anyone find other times they said this? (besides the one with Kidd listed above) ..want to see if they use it even with no China connection in the game.

Why did ESPN apologize for it if it was not a big deal?

Right, because if the N word was headlining ESPN, it wouldn't be a big deal at all

I personally don't think it's a big deal, but I can understand why people take offense to it.

Right but "Chink in the armor" is an actual idiom
Its not like they can put a headline thats commonly means something else with the N word......

"N-WORD IN THE WOODPILE"

Fair enough.

I guess I just figured ESPN wold have enough common sense to realize that the headline could be construed in a negative way. But then again, it is ESPN..lol

I think it was pre-meditated and someone at ESPN was just waiting for the Knicks to lose so they could use this headline for **** and giggles.

There is no coincidence. This was intentional and offensive. However, it was kind of funny, in a wrong kind of way.

Because people made it a big deal for no reason

Sports reporters have used this phrase since as far back as I can remember. The difference is, they never used it as the headline of an article. It is clear as day that this was done as a "joke" or a reference to Lin's ethnicity. For a company purporting to be "The Worldwide Leader," it's absolutely inexcusable and someone should be fired for it.

Stop being so nig-gardly.

Is this OK guys? I'm not trying to be racist or anything. Really, I promise.

Who comes up with these slurs anyways? They need to stop taking perfectly good words and turning them into slurs. Anybody remember when f*ggot just meant a bundle of sticks? Me neither.

What's even more blatant is that we have a football team called the "Redskins" here in DC. Too bad there's not enough of 'em left alive to complain.

If you look it up in the dictionary it's a real word that just means ignorant and if you google it that phrase is used in literature dating back to the 18th century.

I'm not trying to be racist folks but if you're going to use one phrase in reference to a player then everything is fair game. Don't try to move the goal posts for what's offensive or not.

Right, it's like putting a picture of Kobe up there with the headline "**** ACTS COST THE LAKERS - Kobe goes 8/37 as the Lakers lose again." Actually, that's kind of distorting the meaning of the word, and it would befit a Jewish stereotype more than a black one, but you get the point. Somewhere in the writer's head, alarm bells have to be going off that this could be a bad headline to go with.

Haha, and the message board censors the word n-i-g-g-a-r-d - ly. Now that is pretty funny.

Ayon Gustavo had a spic-n-span win over the Knicks the other day.

ESPN had a poor choice of a phrase considering the amount of stupid people on the planet... but if you really want to grasp at straws Lin isn't even Chinese to begin with --- unless you believe Taiwan and China are the same country (debatable)

I've heard chink in armor used before. I've never seen anything called nig-gardly. No one uses it for that anymore. People are too sensitive it's a common phrase that happens to have a racial slur in it.
