This is way off topic but...

During the Chinese civil war between the Kuomintang and the Communists, the latter won (which gave rise to Communist China) and the former lost and fled to what is known today as Taiwan or Republic of China. Both claim to be the real China.

So the people of Taiwan are Chinese and they speak Mandarin (with own accent and slangs) which is the official language of China. Had the Kuomintang won the civil war, Taiwan would be a province of China with a democratic government instead of what you see today.

If you look it up in the dictionary it's a real word that just means ignorant and if you google it that phrase is used in literature dating back to the 18th century.

I'm not trying to be racist folks but if you're going to use one phrase in reference to a player then everything is fair game. Don't try to move the goal posts for what's offensive or not.

We're talking the "C" word, not "Yellow." And I can say there's nothing racist about a black doll named Monkey or throwing banana on the ice at an Afircan American player. If you believe same, then there's no disagreement.

Probably, because of the controversy that was/is guaranteed to ensue because of it---"any publicity = good publicity" kind of crap.

But it isn't the first time they used that phrase. I do remember seeing it before on a few occasions on NFL and NHL headlines where it didn't really have any possible correlation to any particular player

ESPN would have some cover if they also used the phrase in situations not involving Chinese people. Because between Lin and the Beijing Olympics, it looks like they only use the word "chink" when referencing something Chinese.

Even then, Howard Cosell got in trouble for calling a black player a "little monkey", even though he had previously used the word "monkey" to refer to white players.

Chick Hearn got in trouble for implying a black player was a monkey. When Bo Outlaw hung from the rim after a dunk, Chick said he was "hanging up there long enough to eat a banana."

Heck, the Clippers announcers got suspended for saying Hamed Haddadi looked like Borat, and mis-pronouncing "Iran".

A few seasons ago in the first round of the playoffs Vs Portland, Blazer announcer Mike Rice was referring to Yao Ming being very tired and Portland taking advantage of him during their offense. He referred to it as, "Blazers have found a chink in the armor."...I thought about the racistry of that too
