Opportunity for another 2012 1st round pick?

Post#1 » by Rich4114 » Sun Feb 19, 2012 3:10 pm

Does anyone think we have a way to get in on another 1st round pick this year? I feel like if we could get in by giving up someone like DJ Augustin or the expiring Boris Diaw it would be worth it. We're going to lose both anyway and either of those guys can help a contending team.

Always nice to pair a top 4 pick with another 1st round talent. Someone like CHO picking should help us make better choices as well.

I feel like aside from keeping our players healthy, that should be the one thing we hope for. Well, also lottery balls.

Not sure if the Lakers are thinking of it but I'd want Augustin and Diaw for dumping Walton's contract (1 year left after this season)and to sweeten the deal one of Morris/Ebanks too

Of course, with one of the 1st round picks we own(Dallas or ours)which they look to be around 18-23 spots...don't know if you guys can get a lottery pick for Augustin or Diaw or both

With the 2 teams making a trade before,guess nothing's impossible :D

Milwaukee would probably give us a first to take Jax off their hands.

Diop for Jax and a first. Get it done Cho, I can live with that.

I think we should definitely look to trade Diaw (and DJ, if the front office believes that we won't be able to keep him during the summer) for a draft pick. It's better than losing them for nothing after the season is over.

And then we cut him? Or do we play him?

EDIT He might actually like that and stop being a butt. Then we'd F the bucks TWICE with one player!

Absolutely no way we get a 1st for Diaw, hell we may have to trade a 1st just to get someone to agree to take him, at this point trading DJA is our best chance, I just hope we can unload Tyrus in the deal.

Use him to help complete our tank.

Kemba - Williams - Mags - Jax (he's probably fat enough for this now) - Biyombo

Talk about a lulzy lineup.

That would be hilarious.

The only team I consider as a trading partner is the Rockets ... they have two 1st rounder, so they probably give us one, if we absorb some of they crappy contracts. And DJA + Doris would probably help them stay at a playoff spot.

I would, but there is no chance the Hornets would trade with us, so I ruled them out.

Cho seems very creative. I am quite sure that he will make something happen. I would love to see him finagle us a second lotto like he did last year. Two lotto picks each draft three years running would make me sold on Cho. ( I am convinced our pick from Portland next year will end up falling in the back of the lottery.)

They are such an up and down club, I could see it happening too.

I don't know. LMA is pretty talented. I don't know who takes their place.

definitely possible
1) west is crazy deep. teams like houston, utah, minny, denver and memphis (and maybe golden state) are right there waiting to battle portland next year. the lakers, spurs, mavs are old but still locks to make playoffs. okc, clippers are in their prime and are locks. 5 locks leaves, portland and those others fighting for 3 spots.
2) wallace isnt getting any younger
3) felton probably leaves this summer and if they dont replace him with a vet pg they could slip (even felton has been bad this year)
4) batum could leave this summer since he isnt happy with the contract they offered.

Figure out a way to absorb either Johan Petro or Jordan Farmars' contract from the Nets. I'm convinced the Nets would give up the lottery protected 1st from Houston if a team would just absorb one of those contracts.

Thats the only way I could figure out how to make the trade happen. But basically you would amnesty Diop, Petro takes over for him....and then you get an extra 1st. I would only trade for Farmar, if you already had DJ traded.

A Portland lottery pick? I hope you're kidding. The team will be competitive for years to come.

As for trading for additional draft picks what is the real point? Look at the Bobcat history of draft picks since MJ's been on board...

2006- Adam Morrison (3rd)
2007- Brandan Wright (8th), Jared Dudley (22nd)
2008- DJ Augustin (9th), Alexis Ajinca (20th)
2009- Gerald Henderson (12th)
2010- No 1st
2011- Bismack Biyombo (7th), Kemba Walker (9th)

Even with Cho on board MJ gets the final say. History is not in your favor

derp

MJ was "on board" for like a week before the 2006 draft. the only other bad pick on there is Ajinca.

the actual problem is that we've sucked forever and havent got a top 5 pick in the last 5 years
