Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Is Blatche any closer to returning? Not that I want him to play but we need him back on the floor to move him.

At this point the book is out on blatche. A month of april fools dray aint gonna make another gm give up expirings for him. If it were up to me this 'calf injury' would last the entire season then id fire eg and immediately amnesty blatche.

Just to clarify, won't Lewis's contract become a trade asset at some point? Next year he's expiring? And his salary for cap purposes will be much higher than the amount a team would actually have to pay him or buy him out for?

People consistently overrate the value of an expiring contract (or a contract with a buyout). Nobody is going to trade us a good player on a fair contract in exchange for Lewis' contract. At best, we might get a decent-but-overpaid player like Joe Johnson or Carlos Boozer. Also, there aren't very many teams out there with contracts large enough to match Lewis' salary. We'd be much better off amnestying Lewis' contract to generate cap space, and then to offer raw cap space to teams in exchange for overpaid players with smaller contracts (guys like Okafor, Anthony Morrow, etc.)

Another thing tangential to this point: I think too many people are glossing over the financial costs of amnestying Blatche. Blatche is a decent basketball player when put in the right role. He's not so bad that Ted is going to be willing to pay $23M just for him to go away. I think it's more likely that we trade him for some other overpaid player who at least doesn't have the history in DC that Blatche has. Blatche is movable.

Buyout Lewis and get $10 million in cap room.

Trade Blatche if you can. Remember, the amnesty provision can only be used on contracts signed before the new CBA. Blatche is the only guy we have that we can use it on, but I don't see Ted amnestying him to go away either.

Hopefully we can trade him for a 2nd round pick or something in a salary dump to a team that has space.

Quick question - is there any way we can pry the rights of Donatas Motiejunas from Houston? I didn't like him last year, but seems he's really improved his rebounding, and he was already a good shooter.

He's rail thin but a shooting pick and pop big could be huge for us.

Kings decline. Isaiah Thomas has been playing well for them. I would much rather have him than Mack. I'm not sure if Jason Thompson is in the Kings future plans, and he's a RFA, but he's been playing better than Blatche this season, and why would SAC want to get stuck with Blatche's contract?

For the 2nd deal, I think both teams consider, but I'm not sure I like this for the Wizards. Vasquez has been playing decent for them this season, but from what I saw from him in college and from last season, I don't really like him much as a player. Slow, poor ball-handler, streaky shooter, poor defense. I hate Crawford, so I might bite.

Disagree. who is blatche movable for that doesnt add a overpaid player, the amnesty clears his cap space. Using an amnesty on Blatche with 23 mil left on his contract is the same amount of overall cost to our team as using the amnesty on Lewis. Lewis has a 9-13 million buyout, using the amnesty on Blatche is a no-brainer.

i thinkkkkk this works salary wise.

But if Portland really wanted to get value for Batum, but still compete this year :

Young, Seraphin, 2013 First

for Batum, Oden's contract.

Batum's bread and butter right now is basically making 3s and Portland would get Young and still be able to compete, while also getting a lot of value for player they might not want to overpay.

It'll only cost $13.5M to amnesty Lewis. Ted only has to pay him the guaranteed portion of his salary, not the $21M figure which is based on unachievable milestones.

If we assume that Rashard would be either bought out or amnestied either way this summer, here is how it breaks down financially:

Scenario 1: Amnesty Lewis, keep Blatche.
Total cap room gained: $13.5M (all this year)
Total cost to Ted to pay players to walk away: $13.5M

Scenario 2: Buy out Lewis, amnesty Blatche
Total cap room gained: $23.4M ($7.1M, $7.8M, $8.5M in the next 3 years respectively)
Total cost to Ted to pay players to walk away: $36.9M

Basically, for amnestying Blatche to make sense, you have to assume he has no value whatsoever. I realize he's not worth $8M a year, but surely he's worth more than $0M a year. if nothing else, at some point, we will be likely to trade him for some other unwanted player who costs maybe 75% of what Blatche costs. At least that would amount to a tangible savings in Ted's bank account.

Although I'm one of Young's staunchest defenders, I'm coming around to the notion that he needs to go simply to complete the process of cleaning house. McGee is the only player from the pre-Wall era who has shown enough potential to risk keeping around.

I'm not sure if it has been posted here before, but I've seen it on the Trade Board:

WAS trades: Nick Young
LAL trades: Josh McRoberts

It gets the Lakers another desperately needed wing scorer. It gets us some value for Young (assuming we're prepared to let him walk this summer). McRoberts could be a Nick Collison type of player for us. He's a capable big man on a friendly contract who can stick an open jumper and play intelligently. If we end up drafting a PF this summer, then we can look to move McRoberts for something else. At least we end up with value instead of letting Young walk for nothing.

Not following you . Surely someone would pick up Dray for 4 or 5M a year for a 2-4 year contract. All of that is savings to Ted. Right now it would be to hard to project that situation so it inst really worth trying to figure it out. All that matters is that there are options.

I guess this is the only remaining reason to keep starting him. Keep his value as high as it can be.

The Lakers struggled to score 40 in the first half against the Suns today. They got blown out. This would be a good deal for them. They can certainly use Nick and LAL would be the place for him to prosper.

What I would love is to expand this idea and somehow force the Lakers to take Andray Blatche.

Why wouldnt the Lakers trade with Boston to get Ray Allen. Boston is done and Ray is a class act that deserves another shot at a title. He would be able to step right in.
