Kobe: Time to trade Pau or say he's staying

Post#1 » by dockingsched » Mon Feb 20, 2012 4:38 am

https://twitter.com/#!/KevinDing

Kobe just put Lakers management on point with postgame statements to trade Pau Gasol or say they're not going to trade him. Kobe said he'd prefer Lakers don't trade Pau but said a decision needs to be made for Gasol to put his "whole heart" into game. Kobe called Pau "consummate professional" but said: "If your head's on the chopping block, it's hard to put all of yourself into the game." Kobe knew what he was doing by talking about it, half-smiling when he was done: "You got some bulletin news for your story?"

https://twitter.com/#!/Mike_Bresnahan

Kobe on persistent Pau trade rumors: "I wish managament would come out and either trade him or not trade him." More Kobe on Pau: "It’s just tough for a player to give his all when you don’t know if you’re going to be here tomorrow."

Man all this crap is BS with this era's players, guys in the 70's or 80's didn't bitch and moan about hearing their names in trade talks or rumors. Look I can feel where Pau is coming from, it's obvious he wants to stay a Laker and finish his career here.

Bottom line it's just not a good feel for things here anymore, we don't feel it, nor do the players. We haven't done anything to help the team and like I've said, I think the Buss family has gone on the cheap again after the Paul fiasco. It's made them gun shy to seek out anything that will help the team because Stern has scared them into some type of corner on making a serious deal.

I'm not sure if thats how Kobe meant to say what he wanted to say but if he did then all I can say is wow. Does anyone not see a deal going down after this?

Nope...if we couldn't even make a small deal just signing scrap heap free agents, how are we suddenly just going to make a deal now because Kobe says something ?

@KevinDing: Pau: "It would be nice to know one way or the other for my mind's sake, but I don't know if I'm in a position to really demand that at all.

Stern and the other owners are laughing to the bank. Anyway, I think you're gonna see something go down within the next few weeks. It takes time to craft deals and make calls and activity really only picks up after March 1st. Until then, I would hope Pau and the rest of the crew NOT take advice from Lamar Odom.

If management realizes this team can't add small pieces in order to compete then their only move might be to try and trade one of Bynum or Pau and try to win that way.

I just love you, kobe bean bryant.

"Kobe called Pau "consummate professional" but said: "If your head's on the chopping block, it's hard to put all of yourself into the game." Kobe knew what he was doing by talking about it, half-smiling when he was done: "You got some bulletin news for your story?"

That's **** it.

Mitch is incompetent so at least say gasol wont be traded instead of doing nothing.

Now **** sign a good / not a corpse PG with our TPE and we're good to go.

Pau Gasol: "I'm not trying to force things; I'm not trying to force the team if they want to trade me to trade me tomorrow."

https://twitter.com/#!/KevinDing/status ... 1775748096
Gasol said he believes the Lakers are “listening” to offers as opposed to taking him off the trading block.

“It seems it’s not that way,” Gasol said. “That’s the feeling that I get, and I haven’t really confirmed it, but from the situation and all the talks, that’s what I perceive.”

You know the last time this exact situation happened it was Eddie Jones in 99. He had heard all these rumors of him being involved in trade after trade. It bothered him too, then Jerry West got pissed and said Eddie had to block that stuff out and just play. So Shaq is still banging on Jerry about his "thug" power forward and shooter. We got his thug with Dennis Rodman, but still lacked his shooter.

So Jerry is still on the grind for Shaq, meanwhile in Charlotte Glen Rice is available because they didn't want to extend him. Weeks later rumors get hot on Rice to LA, in the meantime Rodman goes off on how the team didn't need a trade...he felt we had enough to win it all. Shaq still felt otherwise, but Jerry started to have second thoughts ( probably thought Rodman was right), but rumors were still hot on Eddie.

So finally being tired of it Eddie goes to Jerry's office after practice and said he wanted out because he was tired of the rumors of him being traded. Out goes Eddie to the Hornets in comes Glen Rice.

This is that story all over again, if Pau is that bothered by it just ask out and kill it once and for all.

So Deep basically what you said in a nutshell is

1) Pau Gasol will demand a trade
2)Trade will lead to another LA 3peat.

Great input, deep.

Thinking about it again I have to agree with you...

Naw Sky...you know like I do we still had to change coaches first. Del Harris had run his course here, Mike.B is just starting out......but I have faith in him. He needs the players to compliment his style he want's to play.

Bottom line, I don't know what management or Pau will do. That's why I said we don't have a feel for things anymore. Back in the day when we weren't going right, you could feel it in the air something was about to happen. I don't get that now.

:D I was just messing with you. I liked your post. Good to have older guys around to post stuff like this. I was still a young buck during the early days of the Kobe and Shaq era so I never paid attention to all the behind the scenes stuff like I do now.

True Doc, but it was a different era all around...I get that. Thing is though Doc, I don't remember players I watched get all bent out like these guys do now. These guys can't handle rumors, you know from Day 1 when you're a kid and dream of playing pro sports that trades are apart of it.

Hypothetical, but let's say Melo comes back and doesn't fit in well with Lin-NY puts him on the block. The Lakers meanwhile have decided that Pau will be dealt no matter what. Do you:

Take one of the rumored depth packages (MIN, HOU, GSW, etc...)

OR

Turn one of those depth package deals into a three way and land Melo, with most of the depth heading to NY?

Assuming we keep our LO TPE intact of course.
