Looking at the D-League all stars, this player isn't one of them. His averages seem good to me.

Dominique Coleman: 11pts, 6 asts, 6 rebs, 2 stls and shoots over 40% from three in the D-League.

The next Jeremy Linn-type call-up, he's far and away better than Mack, cut-him and make it happen.

Blake Ahern should get a shot somewhere.

How about Gerald Green making a return to the NBA?

Green also someone who should be given another shot, the key is to waive Mason and start trying these guys out.

The Wizards should cut Mason and try to add the next Jeremy Lin. :)

--Andre Emmett has a pretty good D-League resume. 23.7 PPG, 53 FG%, 46 3PT%. Emmett is among the most efficient players in the D-League.
http://www.nba.com/dleague/playerfile/andre_emmett/

--Mo Almond doesn't play defense and he is a black hole on offense, but he really can shoot the ball and score. On draft day I said he is better than Nick Young. I can't see why Almond could not come to the Wizards and be a darned sight better than Crawford and Mason. With Young a FA, I think adding Mo Almond as a guy who would be happy just to get the league minimum like Lin, would be good.
http://www.nba.com/dleague/playerfile/morris_almond/

--Marcus Lewis just had 20 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 blocks. He seems to be a Chuck Hayes type guy, who plays terrific defense despite being undersized at PF/C, and not a shotblocker.

Those guys deserve to be on a roster, somewhere. Lewis seems most deserving IMO, but Emmett or Almond really fit the needs of the Wizards at SF and SG. They can shoot the basketball and score well. I liked both guys heading into their drafts.

Wow, Nivek, that practically brought tears to my eyes. :)

Maybe it’s time NBA talent evaluators took a cue from the music world and started looking at players from behind a screen. Maybe it’s time to worry less about what people look like, and spend more time paying attention to what they’re actually doing.

You do know just how much I agree with this.

What's interesting about Ahern -- and this relates to Nivek's blog -- is his similarity to Lin in that he doesn't pass the traditional eye test. He's white and balding. He just doesn't look like what we've come to expect from typical ballplayers. Don't we have a spot open on the roster after releasing N'Diaye? Let's give this guy some of Jordan Crawford's minutes and see what he can do.

Maybe this is better for the "do players improve?" thread, but our old friend Alonzo Gee is having a nice little season in Cleveland:

http://www.basketball-reference.com/pla ... eal01.html

TS% of .603, shooting 39% from 3. Getting 27 MPG for the Cavs and still just 24. He could stick in the league for a while, maybe even as a 6th man for a good team if he continues to improve.

His NBA call up has already been updated on wikipedia. Wow.

Emmett scored a Chinese Basketball Association record 71 points in one game. He has also played in Belgium and Lithuania.

It shows the NBA's bias against Algee. You'd think at least Phyla delphia would have an interest in him.

D-League is perhaps where Allen Iverson and Gilbert Arenas should go.

Mike James got called up by the Bulls today. If they really have game (which I wonder) they need to swallow their pride and go ball in the D-League. Jeremy Lin played in the D-League this season.

I know the big name guys don't want to be on some 10-day deal, but if they can play I don't see why not.

Indeed, I have been following Gee's rise to that of a solid role-player for the Cavs. Gee went from filler call-up during the Cavs tank last-year, to earning starter minutes.

After the Lin "discovery" and the Emmet call-up, I wonder if every GM is in a mad scramble to see there is more gold in them-thar hills.

If they are, they're falling victim to the same thought processes that led them to miss on Lin in the first place. To the extent that they engage in groupthink, they're going to be late to the "game" of plucking guys from the D League (or wherever) and hoping they turn into something special. The big thing GMs need to do is make sure their scouting processes don't have biases that would lead to rejecting someone like Lin before giving him a real chance. Several stat guys who crunch college stats had Lin rated as a good prospect coming out of college -- even taking into account the weaker Ivy League competition.

This sort of surprised me. Said it a couple days before it happened, but it does make sense.

Allen Iverson is considering playing minor league basketball, according to a source.

Iverson is willing to play in the D-League, Caribbean or South America if it means another chance to play in the NBA.

"Allen only wants to play if there's a possibility that it leads to the NBA," the person said, speaking on condition of anonymity. "That's the only way he would go to one of these lower leagues. He wants to get back to the NBA and leave the game on his terms."

Iverson's interest in returning comes as he faces some financial trouble.

The Los Angeles Lakers' D-League affiliate, the Los Angeles Defenders, has contacted Iverson's reps several times, but nothing materialized, according to the source.

The Spurs call-up Eric Dawson from Austin. Dawson played on the Spurs SL squad in 09 & 10.

Not sure what the Spurs are up to, but if a 2nd seed team that has won 10-straight is still checking-in on guys, I don't know why a bottom-feeder team like the Wizards isn't doing the same.

Greg Smith was called up by Houston to fill in for Jordan Hill. He had 4 blocks and 5 fouls in 12 minutes in his NBA debut.

Rockets signed Smith to a 3-year deal out of the NBDL. Houston continues to search everywhere for the Jeremy Lin of centers.

Check-out the Prospect Watch update, there are at-least 3 guys who should be on the Wiz call-up list:
