Devin Harris for Garcia/Fredette

Postby blackham9258 on Mon Feb 20, 2012 8:39 pm
Devin Harris was an All Star 3 years ago. He stinks frankly in the Jazz system because we are asking him to be a slow down half court player which is something he is not. He is a leader though, and a true PG and would come back to form in your offense and would provide some veteran leadership. He would push the ball and wouldn't be playing out of position, like Fredette. He also would be great a drive and kick player and unlike the Jazz who have no shooting to kick out to, he would be a tremendous fit.

Jazz get the local kid back for some much needed outside shooting. Garcia no matter what you think of him is a salary you would rather not have coming off the bench or getting DNP's for $6M a year.

Harris provides skill, defense, transition offense, leadership and upside when he returns to form at a position of need, and he comes off the books next year so you aren't committing long term to a mistake like Salmons.

Yes you give up a fan favorite, but a fan favorite who is getting benched right now in favor of the 6oth pick in the draft.

i dont know. garcia has 3 years left on his deal they could be eager to move him. plus harris and reke could work together. jazz would need to add some sweetner im sure but not that far off.

Garcia only has a team option after next season, so he actually saves us money over Harris. I also think he is a far superior defender than Howard and he is a very good 3 point shooter. He is someone I have liked for a while. He makes too much money but so does Harris. Its a wash. I don't think they give up on the 10th pick this early and the only comment so far on their board is how much the Maloofs like Jimmer but you never know.

How does a 5'9' PG as the 60th pick beat out the fan favorite and owner favorite for playing time? I think Jimmer will prove to be a good player, but they aren't helping him with how they are managing his time there.

Sacrement? I thought this was going to be part of your church program or something.

I don't think that either team does this. Harris doesn't help SAC.

I'd rather trade Harris for an expiring (if possible) and just find someone who hasn't been signed yet to take over the position....say, Gilbert Arenas (I know people would hate that, but I think he's still got a lot left in the tank).

I agree with trying to trade him for an expiring, because I am frankly not a huge fan of Jimmer. I didn't want to draft him, but looking at the situation in Sacramento I think that is one of the few places that is so much in need of a pg and shedding similar salary while giving some value in return is actually a possibility.

Next year Sac has $29.3M tied up in 5 SG's: Tyreke, Thornton, Salmons, Fredette, and Garcia. They play Fredette essentially as a SG.

They can shed Garcia who expires after next season and give us a PG project who will sell jerseys and tickets.

I have been racking my brain for a month about who we could send Harris to who could give us picks or expirings and I just can't find one, unless someone gets injured in the next week. For example if Teague were to go down in Atlanta I could see them shipping us their pick and the expiring of Hinrich, but until something like that happens we wont be able to trade him for someone straight up.

This trade gives us the potential upside of Jimmer as a PG/SG, and a good defending, good attitude, good shooting Garcia while losing a guy that is our second best PG. No real cap costs, only upside.

im not so sure even about that i think Tinsley would do better job at pg spot if he would get some playing time, we dont need harris we need some one with shooting range and thats it

Again this is the first trade I have been able to come up with that I could actually see both teams doing and both teams end up better. I also think it is a better situation for all the players. Garcia won't be sitting behind 4 others, Fredette will have the chance to become a phenom and a pg, and Harris will be allowed to run.

I don't think it will happen because I think the Maloofs love Fredette and it may be too soon to admit a mistake.

As someone who loved Burks and wanted to move up to get Burks back when everyone was dying to get Jimmer I couldn't have been happier when Sac grabbed Jimmer and Burks slipped to us. The reason I mention this is to say that I am not one of those Jimmer lovers who thinks he would be some kine of saviour. Or that we should mortgage out future to get Jimmer at all costs. I am very practical about what he would bring.

In fact Jimmer is struggling like I thought he would, but I also think in Utah he would fit well as a back up PG/Shooter where we split PG duties with Burks and a good ball handling Hayward... where it wouldn't matter who brought the ball up its about positioning, shooting and dumping it into the post and penetrating and kicking.

Burks could penetrate and kick to Fredette or Hayward all day long. I also think Garcia would be a great fit.

I just think this is one rare scenario where all the players actually get more playing time on a team and in a situation that helps all of their careers.

Yes in a heartbeat. I actually think that Garcia in the right situation could become a good role player once again and I'm down for bringing Jimmer here.

Of course. Garcia plays with heart and conviction. He can impact games, he talks on defense, and is a good leader and locker room guy. We need shooting and if Jimmer can get his shot back it could only help us.

Where do fans come up with this crap. This ain't fantasy basketball. This is the NBA remember.

Why bother with Jimmer. Jeremy Lin is a free agent after this year. Let's just get him.
