Westbrook or Durant
Hello I'm a magic fan but I've always loved watching the thunder(and I have my money on them winning it all) anyway I wanted to know from thunder fans if Westbrook was better then Durant? I've always thought Durant up until this year...not that he's having a bad year it's just that Westbrook does everything and plays defense as well. I've heard bucher say that Westbrook is better as well. So who's better and why?

I'm not sure it's easily Durant. I mean Westbrook does EVERYTHING. Besides scoring what does Durant do well? And just to clarify im not knocking Durant at all both incredible players

I'll have to go with Durant's answer. Who cares? I don't.
If you've watched Durant play at least 10 games in his career, how do you come away with the opinion that all Durant does is score?

I watch him all the time and every playoffs game he's been in...he does rebound but he's not a great rebounder

Re: Westbrook or Durant
I'm not sure what you're saying?
He rebounds when it matters and historically has secured some of the most important rebounds in OKC history, but some how that doesn't make him a great rebounder, because his overall rebounding numbers don't meet your expectations?
I would say that Durant is a trusted rebounder. If the team needs a rebound, I trust him to secure it more than any other player on the team.
Durant has a role on this team, but has shown he can be a lock down defender, a primary rebounder and a facilitator. He's a great leader and teammate for his age. Not to mention one of the best scorers in league history. So how is he just a scorer?

Re: Westbrook or Durant
What Durant have/does better than Westbrook:
- Scoring
- Court vision
- Pick and roll handling
- Rebounding
- Shooting and finishing at the rim
- Defending
What Westbrook does better than Durant:
- Attack the rim
- Run the fastbreak
- Shoot off the dribble
- Assist to Durant.
Westbrook seems to me a Top 10-12 player now, but Durant is on another level. Duran'ts comparison in my opinion is Dwight Howard, Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul... He is not far from LeBron too.

What doesn't KD do? He's not asked to pass although his passing skills have improved and his assists are up.
He's the leading rebounder on the team.
He's playing elite iso defense, holding opponents to 26% FG%.
He can score literally any way he wants to.

No way Durant is a better ball handler or better court vision

Westbrook is the heart and soul of the team. Just once I wish Durant would play with the same kind of effort and tenacity that Russ shows.

Not sure abour ball handler BUT he does have better court vision. More assists doesn't mean you have better court vision. You seem like someone who looks at boxscores more than watches games.
If you watch Durant, he gets tons of hockey assists (pass leading to assist), making them to other sides of the court. He makes the passes that lead to the easy assist. This was particularly the case in the playoffs.

Theres more then that to what meets the eye. You don't see practices, behind closed doors, what a player is feeling inside.

I do look at every box score of thunder games but when they are televised Im more than likely watching it.. Let's just say this, there is a better chance on any given night that Westbrook gets a triple double rather than durant

Re: Westbrook or Durant
That doesn't mean he is a better player. According to your theory then Oscar Robertson was the best player of all time? And Westbrook is no where near the level of Oscar Robertson, his numbers are all over the place.
He's only averaging 5.5ast as a starting point guard in the league, who's primary role is to distribute the ball and set up the offense. He has been proven at times to be cancerous at this (e.g playoffs) and had to be replaced by Harden to run point.
Durant plays his role. He is a scorer, he is consistent (despite a bad shooting night here and there), he is clutch as hell, and he adds the most value to the team he is on. OKC without Westbrook would be a hell of a lot better then OKC without Durant...And the best players get your teams W at the end of the day.
A better question would be who is more skilled, Westbrook or Durant. Westbrook might have a bit of an edge in the skill category but remember, Durant has a good 7" on him and about 10" on his wingspan.
Durant also has room to improve a low post game, passing and defence. Even at this point he still has a higher ceiling than Westbrook.

Re: Westbrook or Durant
Totally agree with Birdman on both posts. In fact I think Westbrook has tunnel vision, which is my main argument on why he should play a role with less creative freedom and usage rate than he is playing now.

This is ridiculous crap that comes from people who think screaming and beating your chest is leadership and heart. Durant is the quiet leader, remember who called Russ out on the court? Remember who was standing up to Bosh (Dude he took on a dinosaur)? His heart and soul get a bad rap because he is so smooth. He makes it look effortless so people assume he isn't playing with the same passion, truthfully it's just that he has such a beautiful game.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.
