It's quite a bit different in baseball. Even position players can come back is the best shape of their lives and have it do nothing for them.

Pitchers however throw over 100 pitches some games, so improving stamina and throwing harder CAN equate to a much better year (if mechanics are sound and control is there). I'm trying to think of another sport where it is similar but I came up with the conclusion that it is entirely unique.

I'm not going to speculate whether or not Cecil is a better player, but I say he averages career highs in fastball speed and innings pitched. Both help in making him a better player.

He's probably exaggerating, but Tim Lincecum said he lost more than 20lbs.

After using 2011 to bulk up in an attempt to gain endurance, Lincecum appeared at the Giants fanfest this past weekend and said he had lost 22 pounds over the winter.
