Just want to point out that he didn't play any basketball all summer and focused solely on getting bigger (which is stupid in itself)...so obviously it was going to take time for him to get back to where he was last year. Couple that with the really short preseason/training camp and having no time to rest in between games, and Amar'e was behind the 8 ball from the beginning.

Before his brother passed we saw Amar'e getting back to where he was last year. He was attacking more and was hitting more jumpers than he was earlier in the year. His brother's passing is definitely weighing on him...it's probably going to take a few games for him to find his groove again.

Now, with that being said, I'm always up for trading players to improve the team -- doesn't matter who the player is (adopted this after the trade deadline last year).

And I agree with that but looking at this season clearly shows none of that matters lol.

He should know & I'm sure you know how the NY culture is. If you don't play well & we lose games the jury starts to come out on you. With Amar'e's play this season it's very justifiable that the jury should be out on him. Maybe if he actually hit shots consistently & drove to the lane like he used to, I would ease up but when you can't even do that & you're being relegated to a SF jump shooter?

Now that's pitiful.

The few games before his brother's passing he was hitting his jumpers...he was attacking the rim more. You could see it in the way he looked on the court that he was getting comfortable and felt good. He'll be back to that point soon.

I hope so. Not very confident though, he just doesn't seem like he is all there, lost some explosion. Wish he would go back to the old goggles he was stylin with, he seems like a vag with those glasses.

The problem isn't anything to do with offense, it's that Tyson has come here and shown this team how to play team defense at a level that would allow a team to win a championship. Not only has he showed this team that defense, they actually started applying it when Stat missed all the games due to his brother passing.

The bottom line is that Amar'e has shown no defense acumen whatsoever, and thus he can single-handedly ruin the entire defensive structure. As the man himself said a couple of weeks ago:

https://twitter.com/#!/Amareisreal/stat ... 5799718914

Amar'e Stoudemire
@Amareisreal
Let's win tonight Knicks, we have to play with heart, smarts an together. We are only as strong as our weakest link. Lets go!!

It's incredible irony that his own words describe exactly why he is the impediment to both he and the Knicks ascension to a championship level.

If you need evidence from his teammates, look not further than Tyson Chandler himself talking happily about the defense the team was playing in the period when Amar'e was out:

"I love having Jared on my side," Chandler said. "His communication, coming in and out of timeouts, telling me what he's seeing out there. I know he's somebody that I can rely on. Also, I don't have to help as much. When I can key in, like tonight, on Bynum and that's it, I'm going to shut people down. When I get in trouble is when I have to help other people a lot, and I come over and my guy already has the ball in scoring position."

I really hope that Amar'e puts as much effort into his defensive growth as he does into his jumper and his fashion interests, because at this point he is the weakest link in the biggest, and most important, change this team has experienced this season, and without being able to maintain that upgraded defensive system, I personally don't think they have a legitimate chance of winning a title.

I made this thread on January 4th. It is now February 21, days before the All-Star break.

Clock's ticking.

I love this quote from last night - the epitome of fake hustle:

"We did a great job of trying to contain those guys, but they were hot out there," Knicks forward Amare Stoudemire said. "There's not really much to say."

Here's a question:

What would you kick in with Stat to move him to the Lakers for Gasol?

Stat+Fields?

Stat+Shump?

My guess: I can't imagine the Lakers will move Gasol without dumping Metta World Peace in the same trade or with another deal though.

I want to like Amare, I really do. I want gritty hard nosed players who play defense, take charges, grab rebounds, dive on the floor. I used to hate Jeffries because of his contract and how bad he is offensively but he has more heart than Amare and he's a vet minimum guy.

Maybe someone can link him to this thread and light a fire under him? *shrug*

Amare needs to man the **** up! He went from being a machine to a slow piece of meat. No explosion. No heart. No desire. If he is not scoring, he needs to do other things to help the team win. Maybe he should go into a game focusing on defense and rebounding from the gate and not worry about scoring for once.

These are things a "good" coach can get out of their struggling players.

Crazy how on the money the Suns were.

Article from Jan of last year:

Suns officials were not so sure. Doctors advised them that the new cartilage might last for only six or seven years. If it deteriorated, Stoudemire’s valued athleticism could go with it.

“Our best estimate was that we thought Amar’e had two or three really good years left in him,” said Steve Kerr, the former Suns general manager, who now works as an analyst for TNT.

Stoudemire is now five years removed from microfracture surgery. Year 7 would coincide with the 2011-12 season — the second year of his five-year, $100 million contract with the Knicks.

Year 7 = this year. Coincidence? Lemme guess, Amare is grieving, he hasn't practiced, he's rusty, etc etc.

Why not switch Amare to Center position atleast he wouldnt get beat as much on the defensive end seeing how their arent too many quick centers and he could just camp the paint like Shaq and get rebounds.

Problem solved.

how am i trolling if he is a defense Liability switch him to center he played it Last year before they acquired Chandler and did a better job defending than he is doing at the forward position.

Not many great centers so not much is asked of him, unless their playing The Magic or Lakers with Dwight and Bynum then you could switch him back with Chandler for defensive purposes.

Good idea. That would allow us move to Tyson to SG.

Amare's offseason training plan was a disaster.

He came into camp bragging about his new and improved "beast" body. Great career choice if youre a club bouncer...

But for a player who relies on quickness and explosion, weight training should have been one of the last things he focused on.

I imagine he was preparing to play the 5 and wanted to bulk up to help him in the post...

His J has been broken and his explosion has been MIA. He's too good of a talent to be performing so poorly on the offensive end, especially when his defense is a negative.

Come back to us STAT we need you!

When Amare was with the Suns he was actually trying to stay slim so as to not put too much extra weight/stress on that repaired knee. It makes no sense to me at all why now, 7 years later when his knee would be at risk of wearing out he would decide to put an extra load on it.

My guess is that maybe he already knew his knee/athleticism was in decline so tried to add bulk/strength to compensate. Still doesn't sound logical to me but I see no other reason why he'd do it. It's just boneheaded.

Ahhhhh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit

I've BEEN saying this since last year. Knick fans are all, omg.. no way, his knee will be fine!

The surgery doesn't fix a knee long term. The Knicks FO were desperate to sign a big name. There is a reason no team offered what the Knicks did and the contract couldn't be insured. This is why I've been on the trade Amare boat. Even if it is for mostly expirings, that will save the team.

i don't think it's his knees. i think it's his back.

Return to New York Knicks
