No, its just Eurocup. They still have international VTB league and of course Domestic league, which is a masterlock of every season.

Yes, and even though VTB League is less important than Eurocup, obviously, it's every bit the same level, or probably even better in level than the Eurocup is. At least once you get past the first stage or so, anyway.

Yes, I agree its better, Its definitely better, just not that prestigious. Very few low caliber clubs, but even those are better, than Some Eurocup ones you face in first round.

Exactly. It's a better competition, it's just not held in the same importance, for obvious reasons. What do you think about VTB League next year though, when it changes into the EEL?

Lol, who cares about the next year? Val will be playing over-here. The arguments like this are self-serving, really, no way to prove anyone's point - European basketball and NBA are too different.

Meanwhile, Val had another good game, with 17 points,10 rebs, 3 blocks and 3 assists in some 28 minutes.

There is a huge difference between the level of the Euroleague and the Eurocup. Teams in the bottom 1/3 of domestic leagues like Greece, Italy, and Spain regularly make the Last 16 of Eurocup.

It's not even close to the same level.

Chimki, Spartak would beat the vast majority of Euroleague clubs and most of them by a comfortable margin. Rytas would also be a tough challange. Of course in Eurocup there are 5-6 clubs that would do well in Euroleague while others would be a cannon fodder but you can't say that only weakling gather there either.

Is this the same Khimky that failed to qualify for the Euroleague through the qualifying rounds?
The same Khimky that has Chris Quinn as its starting point guard? The same Khimky that has several rotation players that are mediocre by Euroleague standards (Quinn, Gelabale, Fridzon, Adrien, Nielsen, Kelati, Vyaltsev). Of that group, Fridzon is the best player, and he's really not more than an 7-10 guy in most good Euroleague clubs. If Khimky was so good, they would have not lost out in the qualifying rounds of Euroleague to CEZ Nymburk................

Is this the same Spartak that has Halperin, Beverly, and Mavrokefalidis as 3 of its 4 lead players? Guys that were role players in Olympiacos (Halperin and Mavro), and Beverly was not more than a 3rd point guard there. Mavrokefalidis and Halperin are great offensive players for sure, but they are also both awful defenders. Mavrokefalidis is decent defender as a 4, but they are using him mainly as a 5, and he can't guard anyone at that position. Spartak also isn't a deep team at all. Their amount of depth is way below standard Euroleague levels.

Khimky might make the Top 16 of Euroleague, MAYBE. Then again, with Quinn as their lead guard, I REALLY doubt it. They are comparable to a club like Malaga roster-wise, except they have really limited point guard play, and that kills you in the Euroleague. Last year, with a similar roster, and a better lead guard (Langford) they didn't eve make the Top 16 of Euroleague. Spartak? I don't think they would even make the Top 16 of Euroleague. They don't have enough depth.

Lietuvos Rytas? Valanciunas, Siebutis, Rice, Roberts, Rasic, Katelynas, Jomantas, Samarzidski, and a bad coach no less......no wonder they got eliminated in the Euroleague qualifying rounds by Galatasaray. Honestly, it's not even that strong of a roster by Eurocup standards. In Euroleague terms, It's more or less something on the level of Spirou, but with a worse coach and less experienced players.

I am completely baffled as to what these 5-6 Eurocup clubs that would do well in the Euroleague are. Even Valencia's roster does not look so great if you judge it by this season's Euroleague. Top 16 of Euroleague at absolute best, even for their roster, which does have more quality players than the other Eurocup clubs. And really, as an example, Spanish club Baskonia (Caja Laboral) has a better roster than Valencia does and did not make the Top 16 of Euroleague.

You are really overrating the level of those rosters, or you are really, really underrating the rosters of most Euroleague clubs. Maybe in recent years, there were 2-3 Eurocup clubs that would be decent-solid level Euroleague clubs. TWO to TREE. This year, I see maybe two teams in the Eurocup that would have any realistic chance of making the Top 16 of the Euroleague, in Khimky and Valencia. And like I said, they would not be favored, or expected to actually do so. Neither of them could go beyond the Top 16.

"Chimki, Spartak would beat the vast majority of Euroleague clubs and most of them by a comfortable margin" - sorry, but absolutely no way.

Yes same Chimki who beaten CSKA by ten points.

Sure Chimki failed to qualify but it looks more like momentary blooper rather than a continuous tendency,

Look at what clubs play in Euroleague. Rytas lost to say Sopot (though had the
initiative most of the game) and had more or lessconfortable win at home. Mkaing them stronger than Sopot. Not a great feat but at the same time Sopot is an euroleague team. So are Zagreb, Olimpija,Brose, Spirou. eachof those teams are very beatable. Valancia could give shot, maybe Donnetsk too.

Khimky and Spartak are stronger than Rytas, Lokomotiv would be able to beat the Euroleagues bottom teams at least. Alba has big budget but doesnt look so hot on court.

reporter asked: if there was a psychological pressure when you knew that if you win you advance to next stage?

JV: This is it. Next game is with Benneton, which will decide everything, we will try to win it.

reporter: there is a lot of interest from NBA guys, they arrived to watch you, does it affect your game? you want to play better when they are watching?

JV: I play like always, I play for my team, I play to win, and I don't care if someone arrived to watch me. *sound pissed* :D

reporter: the opponents sometimes left you free to throw from 3-4 meters (thats 9-12 feet?) but you didn't throw, was it an issue with confidence or something ?

JV: Don't really remember those situations, maybe.

reporter: in first half you managed to contain Myers and Traore, but in second they got hot, what happened? what defensive mistakes where you making?

JV: too many offensive rebounds and second shots, we did bad in the paint

reporter: did the opponent prevent your team from playing the game you like playing?

JV: they were very well prepared for it, defended very well, we could say so... not all is lost!

:D
that's it

Sabonis interview is golden but it happened two years ago.

I dont blame him. The interviewer seemed to be totally unprepared and did not notice that Sabonis was making jokes out of her.

Here are some parts from the Sabonis hilarious interview.

Interviewer: when did you become an olympic champion?

Sabonis: Me? In 1988

I: Where did it happen?

S: Where else? In skiing center of Saloniks (LOL)

I: And in what sports you did become an Olympic champion?

S: Me? In skiing wrestling

I: Where do you live now?

S: In a house. On the fifth floor.

Yeah could be that I didn't understand something, did that in a hurry :D
Anyway reporters ask such dumb questions most of the time.

btw Jonas could be a 15ppg guy easily with proper PG in Euro competition, and not that Chuker-ese Rice.

Yeap, that guy sucks, and they run no pick and roll situations at all. Despite all that, Jonas puts 10 points per game on 67 TS%.

I will gladly do that everyone needs to know how awesome Sabonis interviews are

"Interviewer - Which sport type Olympic Champion are you?" (I hope this sentence is understandable)
"Sabonis - Me? Skating Wrestling" (and he doesn't even blink )
Next question
"Interviewer - Where do you currently live and practice?"
"Sabonis - I haven't been practicing for a very long time and I live in a house, 5ft floor"
Next question
"Interviewer - In Ukraine?"
"Sabonis - No, I live in, how can I say this, in Lithuania and Spain. Now I came here to Dnepropetrovską... To live here for a few days"

Sabonis The most awesome basketball player ever

Do not forget it all happened in basketball center, during some junior team practice. You stand next to F'ing 7'4 guy in basketball gym, and you ask what kind of sport did he played?
Sabas actually turned around, looked at all these kids, basketballs, rims... to give a hint... Me? Skiing wrestling (pokerface)...

they showed a clip of jonas during the raptor game, was strapped to an exercise ball and had cables all over the place no idea what he was doing but it looked high tech, and his trainer looks like a scientist
