Gasol-Picks for Al Jefferson/Harris/Howard

Post#1 » by blackham9258 » Wed Feb 22, 2012 3:45 pm

Gasol gives us a top 10-15 player to allow us the chance to contend and here is how.

This takes our committed salary for next year down $4.5M, and after cap holds for picks you have about $8M left under the cap to sign someone.

I then propose that R Bell, Gasol, Paul M, Coach Corbin and Watson show up on the doorstep of Steve Nash at midnight July 1 to recruit Nash. With Nash we are a title contender. We sign him for 2 years $16M.

Then when Cuban amnesty's Haywood to go after Deron and Dwight, if that goes down Cuban will have to find a taker for Marion... to complete 2 max contacts... with our TPE we pick up Marion who will be our defensive stopper. We could also put in a claim for Haywood if we feel it necessary to carry another talented big... at least for a trade piece down the road... offer 2.1M or something like that.

Nash/Watson/Lilliard (Jazz draft pick)
Hayward/Burks
Marion/Lamb (GSW draft pick)
Favors/Millsap
Gasol/Kanter

We have a two year window with Nash/Gasol/Marion to go for the title with the deepest bench in the league.

Thoughts.

After 2 years we turn the team over the young guys.

We don't want to trade one the the bigs for another big, unless they're obviously a back up

Excuse me what? Pardon my disdain but this is a slam dunk deal even if we don't get Nash. I like all our players but Gasol is a 7' skilled stud who would be posting ridiculous numbers if Kobe and Bynum weren't his teamates. Harris is dispensible, same w Howard so LA gets value for dumping a top 15 player. This is a no brainer if your intent is to be good.

With pick or picks we can use to move up in the draft and grab a better player.

Just out of curiousity, do you know how much the salary cap is? How about Gasol's salary?

ATL fan here trying to renovate our frontcourt. We know Al's one dimensional but we could just use the size with Pachulia and Smith and have Smith finally in transition and roaming helpside.

Al Jefferson for Hinrich's expiring plus Marvin Williams.

Jefferson is owed $15 mil next yr
Harris $8.5 mil next yr
Howard is a free agent next yr.
Gasol is owed $19 mil next yr and $19.3 the yr after.

So in Gasols last yr( 2yrs from now) the Jazz would be at $39.5 Mil with only:
Gasol
Favors
Burks
Kanter
Hayward
Plus the 2 draft picks from this yr.(That dollar figure is including a #9and #12 Pick salary)
So they would have to pick up 7 players for around 25mil or so before paying any tax.(I think)
I would hope that the Jazz still come in at the 12th pick or worse or else we loose it to Minny.

Well after all that I prefer a trade for Rondo...
