I think Illyasova, Batum, and Ryan Anderson are the most likely targets for us in FA.

Nate, can you think of any trades either at the deadline or the off season where we trade Vesley or Booker for a starting caliber shooting guard?

Re: Official Trade Thread XVIII
James Harden for the unprotected 2013 pick. OKC won't be able to match whatever contract he gets as a restricted FA. Washington gives up a potential high pick, but with Harden in the fold, plus another year of Wall + McGee, the 2012 high draft pick, and a FA pick up it seems like the pick shouldn't be top 5 even though it's a potential lotto.

is Vesley, Crawford, 2013 Unporotected 1st too much for Harden? or just enough to have OKC bite?

Not a trade, but should we consider going after Wilson Chandler right now? I wouldn't have thought he'd want to come here, but apparently he's in Toronto right now considering joining the Raptors. And if he's willing to sign with the Raptors, why wouldn't he be willing to sign here?
He'd be the perfect wing for this team.

I doubt that Chandler signs anywhere for more than the remainder of this season. We can go after him in the summer.

McGee+Blatche+Mo to GSW for Biedrins+Wright+2nd? We get a veteran center and shooter, while the Warriors take a chance on our young bigs.
McGee+Young+2nd to MIN for Darko+Johnson? We take a chance on a swingman and the Wolves cut cap to make a splash in the summer. Darko's deal actually isn't that bad, according to Hoopshype the last year is a team option.
McGee to POR for Babbitt+E.Williams? We get a couple of young players instead of letting McGee walk for nothing, and the Blazers take a look at McGee as a possible replacement for Camby/Oden.

^ I'd prefer any of those choices to the alternatives, which are 1) letting McGee walk for nothing or 2) overpaying to keep a guy who can't get out of his own way. Either one of those would be far worse.
And you better believe that the avatar WILL change on March 15 if some moves aren't made...

I actually like the trade to GSW for Beans and Dorrell. They are looking to make some moves so it could happen.
Dorrell is a good 3D guy.
Beans, well, his contract sucks and he has no offensive game to speak of, its been discussed in many other trade threads that he might just need a change of scenery. He's still quite young. Come to think of it, if he fills out, a more athletic Biedrins with some offensive weapons but less rebounding could be what Vesely develops in to as a Centre.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Re: Official Trade Thread XVIII
I love reading about the different trade ideas. Yesterday I went to the AMEX meeting and greet where Ted and Ernie talked to fans and answered questions.
It's my opinion that the Wizards aren't going to make any trades until after the draft. Leonsis talked about an organization adopting a strategy and seeing it through to the end. There is a plan, but I doubt moving pieces this season is one of them. Also Leonsis said that getting free agents rarely works out (I assume he meant super star vs role player.). He pointed to a couple of teams that built through the draft.
Random thing that Grunfeld said: There are only 6 SG's scoring more than NY now.....

I wouldn't mind getting Bedriens, but I would rather use Vesley as incentive rather than McGee.

Not really. The problem is that there isn't much depth at the SG position right now. But in the abstract, I think Booker, an above-average backup PF, is worth an average starting SG. A lot would depend on the draft and how free agency shakes out.

Realistically what do you all think we could get for sending Nick to a playoff bound team in need of some outside shooting.
Sit back and watch WALL WORK!! >:-)

I think a second rounder(hopefully from another team).
A 2nd round pick made by a play-off team seems to be a 50/50 shot in even playing an NBA minute. I think the Wizards would be better off just seeing if they can resign Nick cheap, than giving him up for that in return.
One possible incentive could be the Wizards 2nd for the teams 1st.
I think that works well for both teams. The contender gets immediate help and a pick to get a player to stash or develop. The Wizards get a better shot at a long-term starter.

Re: Official Trade Thread XVIII
McGee, Blatche, Turiaf to HOU for Dalembert, Scola.
Why for HOU- free up cap room and get to build around younger nucleus.
Why for WIZ- We get immediate upgrade at C and PF position and change the culture with established vets who know how to play the low post on both ends...Keep in mind that a large part of HOU's success this year, they are 20-14 and just beat Philly, is the solid play of both...They would serve as nice mix for next few years (still only 30 and 31) and good bridge to our young talent next year and get us into playoffs. Gives us great flexibility come draft time b/c the young big we draft will be coming in and learning from established vets.
We still have cap room after Lewis is amnestied to go strong after Gordon and Batum and with our #1 draft pick (Davis, Sullinger, Robinson), we have the makings of a playoff team next year and beyond:
C-Dalember/Seraphin
PF-Scola, (Davis/Sully, Robinson), Booker
SF-Batum/Singleton, Veseley
SG-Gordon/Crawford
PG-Wall/Mack
IMO, this lineup is better than HOU's current lineup and they are now 20-14, 6th in West.
I would trade Young for draft pick and package 2 of (Vesely/Singelton/Booker) for mid 1st and possibly pick up one of the Lambs. If we do this, we not only have great starting lineup but we've got great depth.

Re: Official Trade Thread XVIII
If Ramon Sessions is rumored to go to the Lakers for a 1st round pick, then I think you can make a trade with the Lakers for one of their picks. I proposed that a page or two ago, they have 2 first round picks. They can part with one.
Seems like Kevin Martin and the Rockets are having some issues?
Young plus Blatche plus 2nd round pick for Martin + Parsons + 2nd round pick?

Agreed. I can't see why Lakers wouldn't trade one of their first round picks to Wiz for Young. They need as much scoring for the stretch playoff run and Young does play well at Staples and with that team he'll get lots of open looks. Its a win/win for both teams in my book b/c prob don't end up signing him anyways.
As for Martin, that would be a steal. He'I can't see HOU doing that.

I just threw it out there, it gets rid of Andray's contract, gets us our 2 guard, we can then amnesty Lewis. Parsons is an outside shooter which we need!
