Gentry's post game rant
Was it justified?
I see nowhere that he questions himself? Most on the board agree that he is clueless. Nowhere does he question his rotations or timeout use. He doesn't justify his use of telfair, who clearly is not an NBA player. He doesn't question his use or none use of price.
I also think he last lost his team's confidence in him. Not that brown is worth a **** but you can clearly see brown doesn't respect him. Gortat I'm positive is not a fan of gentry.
With his rant, I think he lost more of his teams confidence that there may have been. It's almost like he has the attitude,"don't blame me, blame the players". Guess what your the coach. You get the blame. So I don't think his rant was justified.

Re: Gentry's post game rant
Coaches rant when they either are about to lose their jobs or when they try to shake up the team if they feel some folks are getting too comfortable.
Either way, it's a win for us...except the tankers, I believe...

Which is sad, because it would be the only explanation for why he is so terrible at coaching.

Gentry quotes
"Yeah, I'm disgusted," Gentry said. "I'm disgusted with the way we played, I'm disgusted with the fact that we have a chance to end the break on something upbeat and positive, and instead we walk through the first (expletive) ten minutes of the game."
"The game was lost in the first quarter, when we've got an opportunity to do something good, and we come out like that, it's just ridiculous. It's unfair to the fans in the stands," Gentry ranted. "The way we approached the game sucked. Yeah, I said 'sucked.'"
"We have to decide what kind of team we want to be," Gentry said. "Do we want to be a tease, where we win a couple of games, and then we decide not to play the first ten minutes? Or are we going to be a team that bears down and try to grind this thing out so we can get back in the playoff race?"

Gentry is an idiot. If you are mad about the starting lineup, why wait until the 4:26 mark to make a substitution? And then he only subbed out Frye. Then he subs in Redd at the 2:50 mark. Is he coaching this team? Does he get any blame, or take any responsibility? What a frickin joke!

Ditka couldn't coach this team to a championship.
Our roster sucks besides three players.

Not sure if Ditka knows Ditka about basketball, so I agree, he couldn't bring us a champion. I don't think anyone expects that from this team. But Gentry complaining about how the team comes out to start, and doesn't make a change until after seven and a half minutes into said game, makes him the moron.
This is the same issue I had with D'Antoni. He would constantly complain about lack of effort, but continue to play the guys that didn't give that effort. Put in your hustle guys, and bam! You get hustle.

Re: Gentry's post game rant
I have always been the person to put 60%of the blame on players and 40% on the coaches. I still stand by that.
In the 2 games we won, our starters kicked @$$ and now you guys are blaming Gentry for letting the starters figure it out against the warriors in the first qt?
Trust me Gentry is to blame ALOT, why Price is rotting on the bench, I have no idea. But Gentry isn't the only reason this team is where it is.
Also, it is DEF. not on the coach to decide what kind of team we are going to be. Gentry has a say in it yes but the players have to go out there any prove it.
I think everything he said is justified and hope it lights a fire under the players if they truly are trying to win and not tank. If they know they are tanking then whatever it doesn't matter just go out there and lose.
No, I't pretty sure that's the job of management, coaching staff AND players.

Re: Gentry's post game rant
Gentry has lost us enough games this year, with his poor rotations, which I blame him for.
But to complain about lack of effort, when you have control of who is in the game, after the game is over? He had the ability to change what he complained about. If you don't like how guys are playing, then bench them.
Plus he hasn't taken any responsibility for his moronic moves this year. Mi have heard a bunch of good coaches take blame for the teams loss, this year.
When you have two hustle guys sitting on the bench, and you never use them, in my mind, you can't complain about lack of effort. I don't continue to use a hammer to screw in a screw, and then complain about the outcome, if I did.

Gotta disagree. Coach is the one who decides style of play, Plays ran, rotations, who plays, who doesn't. The coach decides if your a half court team, full court, running team, defensive oriented team. Teaches it, practices it, preaches it, then implements it. See d'antoni, Phil Jackson, pat Riley.
As leader myself, I don't choose who I get. I have to make it work. If you have bad apples you do what u need to with them.

Did you just put D'antoni to the likes of Phil and Riley? D'antoni the guy who said "Here you go Nash, run the offense as you see fit"
I didn't say the coach didn't have a say in all the things you listed. I'm saying its not ALL on the coach. I agree with Jeff Van Gundy for once in my life. The players of this day and age NBA are pansies. They ALL want things just granted and handed to them. Having seen that, people have been trained to blame one person and stick to it. These guys are making MILLIONS to go out there and give their best, and when they don't the blame is on the coach or the management for not "putting the right pieces around them"
The Wiz fired Flip, how much better are they now?
You can't fix stupid.

Re: Gentry's post game rant
But did the Wiz replace Flip with a better coach?
I am not saying the players shouldn't get blame for their play, I just don't think this coach should be blaming a loss on who he chose to put out there. Now if he made a change four minutes into the game, and took out the guys he was mad at replacing them with guys who always give effort,I could see his point.
But overall this year, and to me, last year, Gentry has done a poor job at head coaching.

Re: Gentry's post game rant
I think Alvin Gentry is a good coach, not a great coach like Popovich who is the perfect coach in my opinion, but he has an average/mediocre team, a team without a single true scorer and without athletic guys in the roster ( Shannon Brown is garbage). If your team is not good enough to make the playoffs last year and you add Telfair-Price-Shannon and Morris you know that you can't make the playoffs this year neither for sure.
With the team we have, Alvin is doing a good job. 14-20 is very good if you look our roster.

Re: Gentry's post game rant
@harshey
My point is they have a style and stick with it.
D'antoni : Push the ball, pnr dominated offense, point guard driven.
Phil Jackson: triangle offense
Pay Riley: defense oriented/ center driven
They don't let the players decide the style.
There has got to be a point where you as a coach say this is the teams style. Even if you lose, you at least have a style for the team.
I have yet to figure out what the suns are. And that's not good halfway through the season.

You are basically agreeing with me. I love the post above yours that saberestar made. The coaches you listed had a team built around how they wanted to play. We dont have the pieces to define ourselves as one of those distinguished teams so what do you expect Alvin to do. My whole ordeal is this; Alvin makes mistakes that GREAT coach's dont make but he isn't responsible for how chitty our players play. That is all I am saying. I am not defending Alvin nor am I saying I'm against him.
