Two issues here Twirl.

a) Should he have been suspended? My answer is no. Custody here was terrible. MLB has a big black eye on this since they obviously hired the same guys who helped out Tonya Harding with Nancy Kerrigan. You can envision some Steve Buscemi character with this sample if they ever make a movie.

b) Second issue. Did Braun ever use PED's? It isn't that hard to simply say "I've never used illegal or banned PED's in my career. Ever. "

When you start parsing with comments like "that substance never entered my body" it leaves it open to questions about what substances did enter your body? Or was this a cream used on your skin as a I've heard a couple guys reference.

What interview were you watching? Geez, he said a couple times he's passed over 25 tests over his career and at least three in the past year. That would mean he hasn't taken PED's or banned substances.

Yeah, he dominanced that press conference. Great level of detail, he sounded genuine and didn't really shy away from any questions. Didn't sound at all like any of the guys who have been accused previously. I feel a lot closer to 50/50 on whether he was using or not now than I felt before. One of the better press conferences I've seen.

Will Carroll and Craig Calcaterra say a federal lawsuit would go nowhere and would cause MLB to have to open up everything in regards to the program. I don't think there's any way they would do that.

How many tests did Bonds, Clemens, Lance Armstrong, etc pass?

Again, he said all the right legal words like we've heard from different people before. Focusing on how he's passed tests, didn't gain weight, etc.

All I'm saying is that the rest of the baseball world outside of Wisconsin probably would have liked to have heard a simple "I have never used illegal PED's". Maybe it is in that transcript. The Buster Olney's of the world will be sorting through the transcript by about 5pm this afternoon asking the same question.

Did you watch the press conference? Please explain to me which PED he took that benefited him by temporarily raising test? A temporary spike in test is not significant. What do you propose he took on Oct 1st that was out of his system two weeks later when he offered his DNA?

He destroyed that press conference and I hope he does take legal action and it gets even more details out there.

I think the only remaining question is how the synthetic testosterone got into his sample. That's not something he could necessarily be able to answer.

I have no clue. I also have no clue if he did or didn't take any PED's. Again the corrupted custody chain in and of itself along with the 3x reading could very well mean he never did use an illegal PED.

All I know is that I did not hear a reporter ask this question "Do you categorically denying ever taking or using illegal PED's during your MLB career to date?" nor did I hear Braun answer that question.

I'm telling you, test levels have to be consistently elevated for it to make a difference. So you have to believe he has a way of doing that and beating the system if he's cheating. You think he's passed his other tests but this time his way of masking it failed? Because you have to believe that if you think theres a chance of him being guilty. He said as soon as he found out he had a failed result, he made him self avaialble for further testing. He didn't fail a test on October 1st and then find out October 19th there was a failed result and offer to give another. Offering DNA and another sample two weeks later would be pointless if he was cheating.

Hell, even people that are cheating don't need their testosterone raised that high. Three times higher than they've ever seen? That in itself is a red flag. Especially when you account for the facts he stated about no gains in strength, speed, size. That's what testosterone does. Increases your ability to build muscle, burn fat and improve performance. He's had the same build and same numbers his entire career

ESPN is running an article by Howard Bryant in which they state that it wasn't the failed test that never made it to Fed Ex, it was the retake. These **** are criminal.
