Re: Official Speculation & Free Agency Thread (Part XI)
Piling draft picks does not guarantee the Magic will be a playoff team again anytime soon. Clippers had to suck for like 25 years before they got Griffin. Even then, they sucked until they got Paul.
So, most here want to give up a sure thing and a chance at a Championship someday to be a perenial loser.
I see now why there are winners and losers in this world because losers don't fight, they give up to easily.

If we can get Nash and get rid of some crap contracts you HAVE to try hard. He expires at end of year worst case it doesn't work or dwight leaves and nash is off your books. Nelson/Jrich for Nash/Filler PLEASE!!!!!
Once dwight gets to plays with Nash he'll stay. Nash will turn Dwight into a 25+PPG

If it's a choice between letting Dwight walk and the trade i say TRADE....only because yeah we might suck but at least we can let the Nets take some of our god awful players/contracts off our hands.....I'm Sorry but Big Baby/Q/Duhon has to go...in some way or form we got to get those guys out of here.......Imo they are playing worse than their contract worth and at this point taking away minutes from guys that should be playing every night.....no brainier to me and imo a move should be made because we really can't expect to go into the playoffs with this roster?

I think Hedo needs to go before any of those guys, and probably J-Rich. Yes, all three guys you names are underperformers, but $2.5m or $3m a year for Q and Duhon isn't franchise breaking (especially since going forward teams are required to spend what, 90% of the salary cap?). Davis has been bad so far this year, but he's shown signs of coming around since he came back from his recent absence, and at 26 years old and $5-6m a year, he's also not a franchise killer, cap wise.
J-Rich's contract is similar to Baby's, but he's north of 30 and more likely to decline in the near future. Hedo's the real backbreaker for the next couple of years, regardless of his contract being only partially guaranteed in 2013/14. 33, seemingly on a rapid decline, and earning $11-12m a year.

That isn't the choice though.

q rich doesn't matter, he makes like first round rookie money almost and isn't great but you can push him down the bench and use him in spots for his money
hedo and duhon are the problems, bbd is young and big and is sucking right now but will be moveable in the future. jrich is older, but still productive and has some value with his reasonable contract also. hedo and duhon have no value basically and are almost impossible to move because of it. if we're able to get rid of either one in some kinda trade without dwight involved, it will be a miracle

I'd MUCH rather go this route than do the NJ trade and get draft picks. Draft picks in this league are garbage. Give me the opportunity to sign 1-2 max PROVEN players in this league any day over draft picks on some kids with potential.
WHY do people keep saying this? The NJ trade gives you the EXACT SAME option to do this...AND remove at least TWO the heavy/lengthy contracts imediately PLUS a great young/cheap prospect in Brooks and two high draft picks to boot.
I was just about to make the same comments as I was reading the post on that page. Still trade him to get a high 2012 pick and just suck next year. While we suck next season developing our youth and cheering them on, we get our own high lotto pick in 2013. We'd basically be in the same position as NJ now, except with a better core.

Great post and great list...Again...I said the same thing months ago. It's not like we cant bring in good players. Dwight just needs to excersise a little more patientce. I know it's alot to ask for a player to essentially sacrifice a year of his career. But if Dwights goal is to win, then Orlando has a good chance to add good players and contend.
We may not be the favs to win a title now but we're still winning. He has to know that going to the Nets doesnt guarantee him anything. Orlando already has a solid core to build around with Ryan and JJ..Can you imagine adding Iggy, Josh or Monta to a roster that includes Ryan and Dwight? If Dwight stays he'll get players to come to Orlando. Especially with a brand new arena in Florida and a rich owner.
Wade sacrificed for 2 years and look what he got. If Dwight can just hold on for 1 MORE YEAR, he'll have a better team because our pieces will complement each other better.
Man, I've saying this crap since December. If we can just convince him to stay one more year, the possibilities are endless for our organization.

I dont think anyone WANTS to give up on a sure thing and a chance at a championship. If Dwight tells them he's not going to re-sign they either move him for something or let him walk. It's that simple. I dont understand what you expect fans to do.
It's out of our hands as fans. We've all tweeted dwight asking him to stay, show him love at the home games, created a website http://www.staydwight.com/ I think fans are doing what they can to keep him here. What else are they going to do, hug on his ankle Jeff Van gundy on Mourning style? I dont agree that people are losers for having different opinions on this issue. Some think the FO shouldnt take the chance on losing him for nothing, some do. Both sides have validity.
What I dont agree with is people thinking we should trade him BEFORE knowing what his intentions are.

A sig worthy quote. J-Rich is absolutely imo the most expendable person in the starting line-up. How many times has Redick proven himself as a starter this season? The ball moves a lot better w/ Meer-Redick as the starting back court. Also our SG rotation of Redick/Wafer has more versatility with Redick as the pure shooter and Wafer as a guy who can attack the rim in iso situations. When we bring Redick off the bench behind J-Rich its just replacing a jump shooter with another jump shooter.

J-Rich needs to kick rocks.....Too inconsistent and virtually brings nothing to the table that Redick can't emulate

If we trade Howard, in my opinion the players that need to go are Glen Davis, Chris Duhon and Quention Richardson, they are owned more money combined than Hedo, and at least Hedo has shorter deal. I think Jason Richardson can net an expiring player.

You can't be serious. This 2012 draft is stacked. You realize Dwight was an unproven player with potential when we drafted him. Not to mention Marshon Brooks will be a star in this league.
The 2012 draft is too good to miss out on unless Dwight is staying.
I agree on Brooks. For a rookie he's putting up great numbers and does so fearlessly. Potentially getting him is the main reason I'm not opposed to dealing Dwight to NJ. If we can end up with Brooks, Lopez, another impact player the Nets get us from a third team, and some 1st rounders and filler that would a nice start to rebuilding.

I'm not too worried about the overall level of salary for a player. It all depends on when they expire. We can't resign any of our players to new contracts that expire this season (which we should have offered J-Rich, big money for one year similar to Humphries) Our goal should be space in 2013. The only contracts I deem terrible are the ones that hinder us in 2013 or later.

anyone else not as sold on Brooks as I am? Dude is a nyce player but he's putting up numbers on a team full of scrubs. I'm not the greatest evaluator or talent out there, so can someone please sell me on this kid?

The problem with your statement is that you assume JJ, Jameer will have the contracts they have now. Remember that they both expire the summer of 2013. We can resign them for cheaper then their current contracts.

How often does that happen in the NBA? I know a lot of people here like to say things like this, but I don't know how realistic it is.
