Andrew Bynum to have knee procedure: Still Healthy

Post#1 » by iamworthy » Fri Feb 24, 2012 12:43 pm

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum made it through the first half of the season healthy and wants to stay that way, so he scheduled a procedure during NBA All-Star weekend to maintain his right knee.

Bynum will visit his knee specialist, Dr. David Altchek, on Friday to receive a Synvisc injection into his right knee. The 24-year-old center received surgery to repair torn cartilage in the knee in the summer of 2010 and now wears a brace to cover it during games.

Synvisc is a natural substance that serves as a lubricant when injected into the knee. The substance's website states Synvisc "can provide up to six months of osteoarthritis knee pain relief with just one injection."

Bynum flew to Orlando, Fla., after putting up 14 points and 12 rebounds in the Lakers' 100-85 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday. Bynum was voted into the All-Star Game for the first time in his seven-year career this season and will start for the Western Conference on Sunday. He will attend All-Star mandated activities Friday morning and then make the approximately two-hour drive to Port St. Lucie, Fla., to meet Altchek and receive the injection. Altcheck, the medical director for the New York Mets, is in Port St. Lucie for the Mets' spring training.

Of course he's still healthy. He's out to prove the doubters wrong.

He banged it in garbage time last night, and my blood went cold... Just cannot watch him go down again. Partially for him and partially for the Lakers...
He looked a little hobbled after that, so let's hope this is all it is and that the procedure keeps him playing like this even after the break.

Just saw Drew interviewed live. He said he took contact on the knee late in the OKC game which is exactly what I saw.

Yeah, we all saw that. Did he hint one way or another how the knee felt?

My research at the lab is to create cartilage tissue to implant to cure osteoarthritis and knee **** like that. I guarantee the first people to get them if anything successful comes of it are athletes for the Steelers. Stuff like that here is just pumped into the Steelers organization first.

That's cool. Sounds way better than the crap people do here in Asia. All asian people do is kill animals like sharks, tigers, rhinos, snakes, eat their bones/horns and think it will cure them or make them healthier.

Yes he did. He said the knee felt fine. This procedure was scheduled before that & he said he's playing in the ASG tomorrow

Number one reason why Orlando doesn't want our guy Drew.
