This is when I wish the DC fanbase was more fiery along the NY/Philly lines. We need "Fire Ernie" chants at the Phone Booth, but it will never happen.

In case I haven't made it clear, today's press conference absolutely disgusted me.

Ok, Jason Reid has been reading our board, he has made amends :)

Wizards Coach Flip Saunders fired: Ernie Grunfeld needs to go next

Leonsis’s approval of the decision to make Saunders the fall guy for yet another embarrassing Wizards season (is there any other kind?) prompts an obvious question: So when does team President Ernie Grunfeld get the boot?

Listening to the press conference now. I am encouraged about a couple of things. EG emphasized over and over that he wants to develop the young guys. He also talked about what i took as the sense of entitlement Blatche (he didnt specifically mention Blatche but it was obvious who he was talking about) feels to play however he wants since he knows he will get big minutes no matter what. I take that to mean less time for Blatche and Lewis.

Is RIch Cho still available? To have lost Roy and Oden, that Portland is still competitive in the West is remarkable. There were a couple of moves that might make you raise your eyebrows, overall, Cho is clearly on another level when compared to Ernie.

I think Ernie would make a much better scout than GM. I actually think he is pretty good at evaluating talent. Wall is a gimme, but McGee, Young and Blatche, although all pretty tard-tastic, have also all outperformed their draft position. EG is just horrible at building a team.

And if that's not an endorsement, I don't know what is.

Seriously, though - it just goes to show that the blow-it-up strategy is long and painful, barring the once-in-a-generation player. Even Shaq missed the playoffs his first year.

In other words, if we had Rich Cho here, we'd probably suck just as bad in the short term. Long term, however, is a different matter.

In Cho's defense, he just got to Charlotte -- hired June 14, 2011. So, not even a year on the job.

We need a GM who ranks in top percentile at transforming projects into finished projects in the quickest time possible. A GM has to be responsible for ensuring that his pick actually transforms from a project into a finished good.
That means the GM actually has to be an expert at skills development for each of the five starting positions.
NOt alot of GM's have that background. GM's seems to love leave their project development up to the coaches will really means they are unqualified.
Leonsis needs a GM that can ensure him that he has full proof plan to transform a raw project on draft day into a finished project. I think its wise to select a GM who had a very successful background in transforming projects into actual nba starters.
Grunfeld has not shown that ability at all so its going to take some serious research and money on leonsis part to identify qualified candidates because there aren't many.
the final decision comes down to if a GM can ensure a project can be transformed into a finished good.
Vesely--has shown zero improvement in his ability to shoot off the dribble which leads me to believe Grunfeld had no idea what he was doing. Singleton has shown zero improvement at being ability to put the ball on the ground and effectively attack the rim and draw fouls. Again, Grunfeld is personally responsible for Singleton's development and if Grunfeld doesn't know how to quickly improve singleton and vesely, he should have never drafted them.
Which is why we need a GM that can be held personally accountable for the rapid development of his projects that he selects in the draft.
If Grunfeld isn't an expert at player skills development, he isn't qualified for the job because he can't trust his own decision making skills in regards to evaluating what a player will become and has to rely on the judgement of others. To me, that means we have had an unqualified manager running the organization into the ground for last decade.

Ha. How about John Thompson as GM and Gary Williams as Coach! Thompson knows how to develop the bigs, Gary is good with the guards.

I'm kidding... but Thompson's departure from his radio show & Leonsis' love of G'town has me wondering. In addition to Gary's recent sportsfix interview stating he thinks he could coach in the NBA.

next gm should be maurice evans and then i would sign one of the lead guys from attack athletics in chicago to oversee my player development. The same guys that run the combine work outs. they will help you get maximum return on draft prospects in case we decide we don't want to keep them aka nick young fiasco. He would still be an airhead, but he would at least be a trade asset.

Cho isn't going anywhere, but he obviously is smarter than Ernie
Higgins and general manager Rich Cho shared what each values most in evaluating players. Higgins said "a fiery passion for the job. Being a competitor."

Cho is attracted to what he referred to as the four C's: "Guys who compete, guys with character, guys who have consistency and guys who cover (play defense)."

He looks to avoid what he calls the four S's: "Guys who are slow, guys who are soft, guys who are stupid or guys who are selfish.
