Latest Dwight-Howard-to-Lakers rumor says March 1 is the date

By John Cherwa

February 26, 2012, 12:16 p.m.
From Orlando, Fl.—

NBA All-Star Game week has all the movers and shakers of the sport in the same place. So it makes it a great place for rumors.

Here's the latest one on Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard coming to the Lakers, courtesy of Brian Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel.

The Magic send Howard, Hedo Turkoglu and Jameer Nelson to the Lakers for Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum. The Toronto Raptors are also part of the rumor sending Jose Calderon to Orlando, although no one is quite sure what would complete that part of the trade.

The rumor also has all this happening on March 1.

I hope a trade for Howard happens without Gasol involved if the Gasol-for-Rondo trade rumor is true.

Too many rumors. One guy says Orlando doesn't want Bynum the other says they would be willing to trade for Bynum. March 15th can't come soon enough. These next 3 weeks are going to drive people crazy. I will laugh if Dwight doesn't get traded by then.

If the Lakers do get Turkoglu they should amnesty him before the start of next season for sure... he is waaaaaaaaaay overpaid at $11M per year.

Can't amnesty someone you acquired.

I think you can as long as it's not during the same season... but I might be wrong

You can't amnesty players for which you've traded for.

I posted this rumor in the other thread but I'll have to say is that Orlando's about to eat some massive salary. Both Pau and Calderon have trade kickers and on top of that they're going to have to give Bynum a max contract. Sure it's great compensation for Howard but their books are about to be all **** up if true.

Say the deal goes down and the Lakers add Beasley in another deal, what does that team do in the playoffs.

Kobe + Dwight + shooters (better PG) is already championship material if you ask me.

Adding Beasley to that would be impossible since we will somehow use the TPE for Turk, but if we were to get Beasley, favorites to win it all.

I'd rather Scola if it's possible.

We're not using the TPE for Turkoglu. We can't and it has nothing to do with it. How much better of a bench player is Barnes over Ebanks.

I'm considering Barnes+Kapono+Morris/Murphy to get the deal done with Cleveland and then adding Beasley.

Turkoglu's contract is too big for the TPE, the only possible way we could take on Turkoglu is by trading both Bynum and Gasol. Bynum/Gasol works straight up for Howard/Turkoglu/Nelson so the TPE would still be intact.

This rumor smells like **** to me, but I wouldn't be surprised if we did actually give up both as long as we have something else planned.

It just doesn't seem all that great to me as far as athleticism and defense goes.

I'd much prefer the rumors all come together in a deal where the Lakers get Beasley, Sessions, and just Dwight than all of this crap around them. They could become a super athletic team running up and down the court with anyone.

The Sessions and Beasley rumors are the worst.

They're the best. Late first rounders? Half of the guys from the 09-10 drafts aren't even in the league.

Sure, and Jeremy Lin deserved to go undrafted. I can do that too. Some players never end up in the right situation to maximize their potential and the ones that do become game changers. I'd rather take a chance on a player that has the tools to be better than Ramon Sessions than just settle. Plus, Sessions isn't worth a 1st rounders so that's that. And Beasley won't even be around long if we trade for him. Didn't he hire some agency to manage him and they quit on him because he was out of control? And didn't he recently get arrested before the season started? All of this happening in the small market of Minnesota so imagine what he'd do in Los Angeles.

I don't know that this certain deal happens, but I believe the Lakers are going for Dwight rather than settling on a Beasley and Sessions to save the season. Time Warner didn't pay $5 billion to have viewers watch Sessions and Beasley play.

I think Beasley would be around for a while. That said do Cleveland-Minnesota have any and I mean any incentive to keep Beasley-Sessions for the summer? That is what determines their worth in my mind.

And I have a question for you, is this team with just the additions of Sessions and Beasley worth the $5 billion deal that Time Warner just signed off on?

Irrelevant. What is Time Warner going to do cancel the deal? This Beasley and Sessions stuff hardly affects Howard anyway.

Return to Los Angeles Lakers
