Ersan Ilyasova has been playing great lately, but it makes no sense to give him a long term deal if we're keeping Gooden and Moute.

If we trade Gooden alongside Stephen Jackson in a Marvin Williams deal though...I could see us including Ersan, Leur, or Sanders to get it done.

Jackson and Gooden could be productive for the Hawks, whereas Marvin Williams would give us a different look while we dump cap and tank out this season. Hawks pick up one of Ersan / Leur / Sanders for the trouble.

Now, any of you Hawks fans care to psyche me up about the possibility of Marvin Wiliams figuring it out here? Our situation is so bad that as long as he is a less-bad contract and lockerroom presence I still probably do it...

Sorry but the Hawks would not take on Gooden's salary. 2 of our 3 best players can play PF so it makes no sense to pay someone that much to be your 3rd option at a position. Marvin could possibly be better than any SF you currently have since you don't know with Tobias can do yet. I am okay with Stephen but he is not going to make us better so I am okay without him either. The only player you have that may make us better is Bogut and possibly Jennings but I don't know how certain guys would feel about him taking there shots away.

Salmons and Hickson for Williams and whatever to make it work. Swap bad contracts and you get a young PF who has shown potential.

i would rather do Marvin for Stephen Jackson.

Jackson has a better contract, his defense is above average, and his vet leadership and 3pt shooting will fit into the Hawks chemistry, especially in the playoffs.

From the Bucks standpoint, is there reason to believe that Marvin Williams could get it together here?

I'm skeptical, but am very open to being persuaded.

Our GM has traded for a series of overpaid failed SF's, which is why we're in the Stephen Jackson mess in the first place.

After going from Richard Jefferson to Maggette to Jackson, I'm hoping we kill the trend of constantly pursuing long term overpaid SFs. That is, unless we are dropping more salary in the process via Gooden.

I was only thinking of this being possible if Gooden could be the starting center for the Hawks, next to either Smith or Horford depending on who you keep.

Otherwise, I agree you don't take on that salary just to drop Marvin---even if you really value Leur / Ersan / Sanders.

Depends what you mean get it together:

He is better scoring (by that I mean catch and shoot and occasional drive occasional post up) against smaller guards).

If you milk his skills and pair him with say Elias Harris. He can force some matchups and be 20ppg right now. Not explosive off middle PnR but could improve some on running the PnR from the corner.

Marvin could blossom next to Harris in MIL.

I am unsure he has a extra year on his contract. Would need something extra as we already have a 6"10 guy that stretches the floor in Vlad Rad who is only making league minimum.

Would the hawks fans consider a trade of Tyrus Thomas+DJ Augustin+Najera(exp.) for Hinrich, Marvin and your 1st fair or not?

How, exactly, is this fair? Thomas is a truly pitiful shooter and a lousy, apathetic rebounder. You're going to be paying him about the same as Williams for 4 years. Augustin is a career 41% shooter who isn't a great assist man and is a weak defender.

AND then you ask for a 1st?

ESPN has an insider post about a possible Marvin Williams for Ramon Sessions trade. Here are some quotes from the clip.

Bob Finnan of The News-Herald mentioned there is a rumor going around that would see Ramon Sessions go to the Atlanta Hawks for Marvin Williams.

Finnan writes: "Don't totally discount it, however, because Williams has announced he wants to be traded, and Cavs GM Chris Grant was the one who drafted him in Atlanta."

This trade would also allow the Hawks to get under the luxury tax line, so it's possible some form of this deal could get done by March 15.

As a Cleveland fan, I like the though of moving Sessions for Marvin. Marvin is long overdue for a change in scenery, and Cleveland looks like a great fit considering their lack of starting caliber wings. My only thought is that Atlanta would need to sweeten the deal with Cleveland taking on the extra salary. My initial thought is swapping MIA 2013 1st for your 2012 1st.

I dont see how the hawks benefit from having sessions on the team. Id have to look up sessions contract, but the only value i see him bringing the hawks, is getting out of some of the leftover marvin william contract years

I could see flipping Sessions to LA being a beneficial scenario

If CLE can't get anything good from LA for Sessions, it's hard to see how we would.

I think Cleveland could likely get part of the odom TPE and a 2012 1st for Sessions right now, so I see no reason why Atlanta could not get the same return. The reason for Cleveland not making such a deal is because of my interest in seeing Marvin play in Cleveland. He could give them more of the same, or he could potentially step things up a bit.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
