Our board talked of a Nash trade a while ago. That'd be a good thread to pull up. Some were skeptical of his slow start but Nash has been amazing since and I think he has 3-4 good seasons left imo, since you just cover him on D and let him do his own thing on offense as a true passer. I, for one, have always loved this idea, whether as a half season rental with Nash/Dwight, or as a long term deals with both (And Nash's deal wouldn't be max like CP3, Deron yet have similar production as them for a couple more seasons at least.)
In that thread, I mentioned probably the biggest, best offer was a Ryno and Frye swap. They are similar players, but Ryno is younger and better. At this point of the season now (after seeing Ryno improve and improve), I think Ryan should be off the table (It would kind of blow to give them two great PF/C in Gortat/Ryno). We can yet make a very compelling offer tho. And the pitch to Nash is easy, play it out with Superman and an amazing offensive system/coach screaming for a passing/PnR PG and then do whatever you want as a FA after the playoffs and how you see the Magic roster shaping up in the offseason. I would also love to retain Jameer as that 6th man PG to share minutes behind Nash and keeping his minutes fresh. Not sure if Jameer would like it at all, but at some point, I see him getting over it and enjoying the sparkplug role. Nash making the passes and offense hum along, Jameer comes in and does the same but with his more scorer-mindset against the opposing team benches. Unfortunately, for Phoenix, they'd need a starter caliber point guard and Jameer is that. And they also know Ryan would be a surefire upgrade to Frye, with just age/improvement factored in, so it'll be tough to keep those two players out of a Nash deal. Ryan is probably the most untouchable though I think.
I see many deal scenarios, but the one I see Otis offering as a potential best of best offer is Jameer, JJ Redick, and some combo of Harper, Liggins, Clark that PHX scouting is high on, along with 1-2 future top 2-5 protected conditional picks and cash for Nash, Childress and one of Brown, Price, Telfair. A "separate" deal is made to dump Warrick's contract on Orlando via the full Bass TPE. PHX gets to dump Childress' and Warricks' contracts on us while netting a couple 1st rounders which could be AMAZING if both Nash/Dwight leave, while also taking on great young players in JJ, Harper, Liggins, Clark. Jameer also will play pretty damn good as the pressure of Dwight's trade demands is gone, I can pretty much garantuee that.
Worst case scenario is we're involving a Ryan for Frye swap, if we lose Ryan to a deal, but it'll garantuee that they honestly have no reason to pay Frye with Ryan on board so they just hand him to us as part of that deal (a decent/good stretch 4). From the Sun's perspectice, that's a great net for an aging Nash right there in Ryan, but if we're offering 1st round pick(s) of a potential star-less Magic and/or JJ Redick also (on top of adding Ryan to the deal already), then in these scenarios, I'd hope Otis would at least take some nice players back too like some combo of Dudley, Grant Hill, maybe even try to get picks and/or Markieff Morris who looks very promising. Those two guys could plug into the starter SF or rotation easily. Morris and picks would be for the future but I think that Morris guy already plays pretty dang good in his ~20MPG. That alternate deal is Ryno replacing Jameer in the offer at the start of the paragraph, so we got a great 6th man PG in Jameer still, and solid rotation players all around in Frye, Dudley, Hill on the Magic roster because we replaced rep-gap players in Telfair, Brown, and/or Price with rotational guys in Hill, Dudley, Frye.
On the other side, I see the best-case deal would be JJ Redick, Clark, Harper, Q Rich, conditional 1st rounder picks/cash for Nash, Childress and Warrick (via TPE). It's so close to the mathematical 150% rule that I'm not sure if it fits yet. In all deal scenarios tho, a final kicker to make a good deal is def Orlando being able to offer a full TPE on Warrick (waiving Ish) as part of whatever deal goes down. So if its JJ Redick, Earl Clark, Harper and Q, with future picks/cash from a potential lottery team then the Magic taking on Childress and Warrick... well then the Suns just cleared out basically all their long term cap space, especially the bad contracts in Warrick, Childress while taking on more young players and roster flexibility. That's why I see this best-case deal for Orlando a very seriously possibility too (without involving Ryan AND Jameer). The scenarios can be so complex though, and a reverse deal is Phoenix doesn't like JJ Redick and the Magic work on an offer around Ryan but keeping Jameer and JJ still. There's a lot of angles to this deal until we find out if it's done deal negotiating without which of Ryan, JJ, Jameer the Magic can keep out of it because that is clearly are our best trade package in terms of simultaneous great playing and salary relief. And it's also clear a Magic top 2-5 protected 1st rounder or two is very tempting trade chips to a deal when Dwight/Nash are potential rental players only AND the Magic's willingness to habitually play in lux tax levels by taking on bigger contracts with expiring contract-to-long contract deals and TPE deals.
