Greg Oden?

From Wiretap:
Przybilla Passes Physical, Roster Decision Between Oden, Johnson Awaits
Feb 26, 2012 11:21 PM EST

Joel Przybilla passed his physical on Sunday and will sign officially with the Blazers on Monday.

But Portland must waive a player to create a roster spot. They will likely decide between Armon Johnson and Greg Oden.

"We aren't going to comment on anything until (Monday)," Chad Buchanan said in a text message. "Our focus today is on LaMarcus (Aldridge) and the All-Star Game.''

Via Jason Quick/Oregonian

Lets say they cut oden (I'm not really thinking they would since he is owed 5 mil I think - maybe it's not guaranteed though) should we sign him just to sit on our bench, rehab him properly and resign him next summer?

Keep in mind this guy when healthy (if ever) can be a real danger and could be as good as any center in the league. It would be crazy if we could sign him and actually get him healthy. NO ONE could stop us muahhaah.

Thoughts?

IMO the only way to save Oden's career is through the use of miracles/witchcraft that is the Sun's medical staff :/. Even then I am not sure. He has not been out on the court for a while, so he is still raw, and will have to rehab running/walking before doing anything basketball related.

I'd rather coax Bill Walton out of retirement.

If the choice is Oden or Gladness than you roll the dice with Oden.

No way Portland keeps Armon Johnson instead though. If they do then Oden probably is done.

I'm sorry but I don't think you can have that many operations to rebuild your knee and still have much left in them. He's done. Theres no way Riley takes a chance on him, he's so much of a liability.

I'd take the risk but there's no way we get the chance. It's a no lose situation.

I'd rather take Zo out of retirement man.

Not only is this a huge risk with his salary, but ANOTHER experiment? We might as well cultivate Big Dex.

Greg Oden's career is getting more sad by the day. He could have been so dominate but hit by so many injuries.

the last thing we need is another waiting game on a Center with injuries. Forget about it. We have a Center, he's just raw. With a proper training camp and being able to play with his teammates/coaching staff over the summer, he can possible start next year.

I remember an article saying if there was a lockout for the whole year and then start a regular season, with all the work Dex would have put in, they said he could have been the starting Center (Sun-Sentinel, forgot the article. It wasn't just Ira speculating, it was true).

I'm honestly surprised Portland keeps wasting their money on him. It's like they are TRYING to make it work, but this man keeps getting more operations. This isn't normal man, the guy is DONE.

Then our defensive system isn't made for this guy LOL, he'd be slow as hell out there like he's 40.

Pat would not hesitate on it. Gladness is not needed, & we are doing the same thing with Curry, so get rid of either, & take the chance on Oden.

What exactly do we have to loose?

Well he's out for the season but he may be worth a look in the offseason. Better use of a roster spot than eddy curry.

Time... this guy has had more surgeries than ever and is getting paid big bucks for nothing. What a robbery he is committing in Portland. Are we really that desperate?

Beeeeeep wrong, not only is he only earning 1.5m this year, he'd be bought out so the max we'd have to offer is the vet minimum. There's no risk at all with his salary.

Serious question, do you think he can Evan walk normally after all these Operations?

I swear I heard something about Portland offering him up more money and he took it.... either way I am sick of all these "projects".

I think if Oden becomes available you take the gamble.

He might be done, but if not he could be a huge benefit. When healthy he was a defensive force & huge inside presence. If he gets back to 100% we become a big 4, if he gets healthy enough to play 15-20 mpg then he becomes our Zo from the title year.

We're getting it done now, so why not commit a roster spot?

They did at first but then they found out about his knees, and both sides agreed to restructure the deal.

I'd still take a gamble on him. Even Grant Hill eventually got better.
