ESPN JUST an idea: Jose for D. Harris + pick

Post#1 » by henrydunn13 » Tue Feb 28, 2012 4:44 pm

http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/7624012/nba-five-trade-ideas-a-big-impact

2. The Toronto Raptors trade PG Jose Calderon to the Utah Jazz for PG Devin Harris and a future pick

Why the teams should make this trade: Calderon has had a nice seven-year career with the Raptors, but at 30 he might not be in the team's future. Head coach Dwane Casey is all about defense and Harris would provide an upgrade over Calderon.

On the other hand, Calderon (13.6 ppg, 10.2 apg in the past 10 games) would be tremendous running the Utah offense with big men Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap. He is one of the best assist-to-turnover ratio point guards in the NBA, whereas Harris has proven to be a bad fit for the Jazz, averaging just 9.1 ppg and 4.5 apg, the lowest numbers he has had since his early days in Dallas.

Ehhhh, it'd have to be a fairly choice future pick. Harris kinda sucks now and can't be amnestied.

So are there any legs to this, or is it just a hypothesized idea from the author?
I'm thinking it's the latter.

Not sure if I would want. Harris' value has never been lower, and his game has really regressed over the years.

Depends on Harris's contract, and the first round pick.

Trade makes absolutely no sense for the Raptors.

Harris is 29 and has no place on a rebuilding team. More importantly though, his contract is basically the same as Calderon's, so the swap doesn't even provide any financial flexibility.

If we were getting GSW's pick (which Utah holds), it might make sense. Otherwise, forget about it.

I would definitely be down for this trade if the pick isn't lottery protected. Otherwise, no.

Utah will probably finish with the 12th pick. That could net us a very decent prospect in this draft.

Harris is an expiring next year. He wouldn't be in the long term plans anyway.

Harris saves us 2 mill off the cap for next year and I'd take a first from them as their a
treadmill team with a pick in the teens or late lottery.

Hell yeah you do it. Harris makes 8.5 next year while Joses gonna be 10+ the trade kicker. Not only does BC get a little more money to play with this off season he gets a pick too. Thats a no brainer.
why was hakeem called "the dream"??"

Wonder if we can pry one of kanter or favors from Utah. That would be huge for us.

What are you talking about? It's no pick. There's no trade. This is all just pretend.

I'd do this. Harris is at worst useful filler in sign and trades or other deals next summer, or a useful backup PG and change of pace guy. Its a shame he's been a horrible defender for the past few years, because I liked his defensive potential coming in from Wisconsin.

Let Bayless beat him out for the starting gig for the rest of the year, and see where this goes.

Jose would be a spectacular fit there with most of one end of Stockton's game. None of the other, unfortunately.

Reading the article. this doesn't sound like a rumoured trade at all - it's just a writer's idea for a trade.

This doesn't really do a whole lot for the team, but if there was nothing else available, I would do it.

Cheaper contract & I'd be interested to see how Harris would look here. He's much, much better defensively than Calderon.

Neither of them are the long term answer here though.

Harris is definitely not a long term solution at the point but his contract does expire next year and he could be a very nice piece in a sign and trade at the deadline. My opinion on the trade depends largely on the pick we'd acquire. Who knows though? What if Harris excels in Casey's system?

To echo what another poster said though, this doesn't look like a rumour, just some writer giving his opinion as to what he could see transgressing.

I will hold on to Calderon because of Jonas. I don't see Harris being a long term solution, so it won't be a short term solution neither, as we can have a choice to amnesty Calderon instead of Harris.
