Another use for the TPE

Post#1 » by Jajwanda » Tue Feb 28, 2012 6:42 am

Are there any franchises this off-season that will need extra cap room? What I'm suggesting is adding a player in 2012-2013 for a pick by picking up salary for the TPE.

I'm starting to see a new twist to how the Lakers are thinking.

Can't really think of any teams trying to shed salary that makes sense, but from the top of my head a few teams would have to be the Utah Jazz (Devin Harris, Paul Milsap, Al Jefferson) and Detroit (Charlie V., Ben Gordon,) since they are both trying to rebuild.

I don't know if it's going to be a trade with the Lakers, but I can also see the Milwaukee Bucks, and Atlanta making a trade by this years dead line, because they've also been stuck in mediocrity for the past couple of years.

I don't think Lakers want to pick up a lot salary either, so I'm not too sure if Lakers are willing/want those players mentioned.

Detroit intrigues me. If their pick is late they might want to get a free agent and Utah may certainly consider it. It would be something if the Lakers could pull off a slew of draft picks for 2012.

Another topic to consider. As much as we've been looking at this year and what the Lakers want to do, perhaps their concern is more or less getting as many inexpensive assets as possible for that 2014 year. D. Williams for example is a guy whose contract expires in 2015. If you were to get a few starters out of the draft in the next couple of years, D. Williams, and Bynum together that leaves room perhaps for two max players to join them in 2014.

I doubt Detroit would be the one to cough up a 2012 pick for any team to take on salary, it's just too valuable.. Ben Gordon is still a quality player, and I don't think Detroit has used their amnesty clause this year, so there's no real need for them to make any trade.. Another player to also keep an eye on is Rashard Lewis, I'm sure not too many posters here like him, but I can see him getting amnestied by Washington after the trade deadline if no team is willing to trade for him.
Solid pick up for any playoff contender IMO.

I see the Lakers saving it and letting it expire so the Lakers can save some cap room for once.
