If we could trade Derrick Williams for a top 10 pick

Post#1 » by touchedbyPek » Tue Feb 28, 2012 1:37 am

If we could trade Derrick Williams for a top ten pick next year what are some potential options to draft in the top 10 that the wolves would be interested in? I keep on hearing that next years draft is so stacked... is this still true this deep into the NCAA season? I know about Anthony Davis and Harrison Barnes, but after that who is a top notch (top 10) talent that fits the wolves needs.

I'm of the opinion that we dont need a big anymore (like anthony davis) with Pek's emergence but all opinions are welcome.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
Jeremy Lamb
Bradley Beal

those are the only players worth spending a top-10 pick on with our needs. Otherwise it'd be smarter to trade back into the teens.

I'd rather move Williams for a proven player. I don't think we need anymore young unproven players. We need to add proven vet in order to increase our chances at securing a playoff spot versus spending another season waiting on the development of another young player. I think adding a proven player like Monta Ellis for example would be better for us moving forward.

I'd say this is a good draft for Centers and Power Forwards. We may not even need a top 10 pick to find a good wing. Austin rivers should be there mid first round, if Barnes, Beal, Lamb, and Kidd Gilchrist are off the board already.

Beal or Lamb would be a dream for us. Doubtful that we could get either of them for D-will at this point though, IMO.

I would do it. Oh, and it's THIS year's draft, not next year.

This trade would never be made during the season, it would be made draft day and I don't think we know where Derrick's value will be at that point.

Harrison Barnes would be THE perfect fit here but isn't he supposed to be a top 3 pick?

Top 5. Also depends on what team is drafting where and their team needs. I keep hearing that if he doesn't win a National Championship he'll stay in school. He really wants to win one and is willing to hold off from the NBA Draft to do so.

Barnes
Gilchrist
Beal

Those are the three I would trade Williams for.

Gilchrist is the one I want. Not the scorer tnhat the other two are but my god what a competitor.

I have no clue what kind of players are going to be in this year's draft but as someone else said, if it came down to trading Williams I'd rather we traded him for a proven wing player.

Unless, of course, there's a deal where we could draft a legit athletic defensive center with a nice upside. Not sure if such a player is attainable for us. Just saying.

I don't think its necessary. Some SG always falls into a range we could get a pick with cash to get in range with.

^Agreed, a Marshon Brooks will show up by the time the draft comes along. And can be had for a mid-late 1st round pick.

Yeah i dont necessarily think we should trade Williams at this time, and thats not what i was going for. Also i dont think we need to go after more rookies, a vet would be preferred, but im just not sure theres many players available there that would work here with attitudes, or contracts.

I'd trade Williams AND the Utah pick for Barnes or Gilchrist.

To be clear, if trading for a proven vet is out of the question, yes I do trade Williams easily for a top 10 pick in this draft.

The better question is what team would trade a top 10 pick for Dwill? I just dont see this happening at all.

Andre Drummond? How's he been so far? A nice shot blocking defensive C would be nice too....

despite his and uconn's horrendus play, there's not much of a chance he slips out of the top 5 let alone the top 3 which of course will cost and arm and a leg....wouldn't touch drummond with a 10 foot pole, especially now that we have pek.
