Disagree completely.

The conclusion I draw is that the most likely scenario is a regression to the mean. Selling Amar'e would be a panic move that I'd rather not discuss in this thread (because it draws out the annoying panicky masses).

His drastic statistical decline over a stretch of 29 games is by no means convincing proof of permanent physical decline. Far more likely are a thousand other factors, many of which can and should be remedied through repetition and effort over a longer sample size.

You see and that's the thing I'd rather shop him around see what pieces we can get & trade him when the best available moment is. And you're right it's not proof that it's permanent physical decline but it's signs of things to come. The warning signs that have been thrown in our faces (People telling our front office it would be a huge risk signing Amar'e to an uninsured contract, doctors telling Steve Kerr in the 7th year of his surgery Stat's knees would start to give out on him, the lack of a post game & lack of defense being spotlighted due to his inefficiency on offense) are too much of a risk for me as a fan to keep Stat, I'm sorry.

I love my team, I want any possible way to win and if that means getting rid of a hefty contract with a player not showing anything close to his superstar status then so be it. This is a business, sometimes you have to make decisions that a lot of people dislike. We'll see how Stat does from now till the playoffs start...

Oh, man, here we go with the '7th year' crap again.

Like Steve Kerr is Nostradamus.

When I read the thread title I expected to learn something new, to finally get some confirmation from Stat himself as to what is wrong with him, but these comments by him actually make me less interested in him now. Really Stat? OK, whatever. Guess we'll have to wait another 25 games for you to find your rhythm then. And if not, then we'll be waiting for the next reason.

This is not the same player of a year ago. I smell BS here. He has got some issues he is not talking about. If he was going to be honest, I'd be willing to support him whatever the problem is. Grieving for his bro is bad enough, but he was playing like crap before that. If he really has back issues, then I'd rather hear the truth, than vague excuses. This rap from Stat just doesn't cut it. It makes no sense and it doesn't explain his lack of mobility, his cluelessness, his turnovers, being stuffed constantly, his lack of shot, etc.

Amar'e is 29. People are talking like he is 35.

Guy has had comeback after comeback. This will just be one more.

And like I said the other day, when the playoffs come and we separate the men from the boys a lot of guys around here are going to be sitting real quiet with their mouths hanging open.
Play time is over.

“Stay tuned,” Stoudemire said after practice Tuesday. “Stay tuned.”

“It’s the lockout, man,” Stoudemire said. “The lockout really, it was to my favor to the point I had time to heal [my back]. But I didn’t have time to play basketball. I didn’t do any basketball at all. I played one game, that was in Miami, that charity game. That was the only time I played full-court basketball. The whole offseason was no up and down for me until I got here and played for training camp.”

“It’s rhythm,” he said. “Whenever you’re away from the game for six months or so, that’s the longest I’ve ever been away from the game of basketball, as far as going up and down and playing. It was definitely a rhythm thing. Now I feel great.”

“Every second half of the year, I’ve got a tendency to turn it up. Because you know how important it is after the All-Star break. Getting that momentum going into the postseason is always very, very key. You want to be playing at your best going into the postseason. It’s going to be an incredible second half of the year for me.”

Uhhh, excuse me, Amare, but did you "turn it up," the second half of last year? Really, I forgot! :o :o

I didn't think he would decline this quickly. I thought it'd be more like around the last 2 years of his contract. Come back STAT!!

Take a look at his advanced stats. You can point to a thousand things that are off thus far, including the fact that a whopping 9.6% of his shots taken are getting blocked this year.

http://www.hoopdata.com/player.aspx?nam ... Stoudemire

Like I've been saying for a while, shop him around & try to get some pieces from it.

He went from I feel better than I did last year to I had to sacrifice my game to it's the lockout man, don't worry that I'm stinking it up for the first half I always do better in the second.

The people who don't easily fall for bullspit know what the real deal is.

VERY valid point, sir. And that's the NEW Amare: Obfuscation after obfuscation. Just WHO does Amare think he's kidding? He has been completely dishonest with us all season. He has yet to level with us, and these latest comments are just more horse poop.

He's NOW blaming the lockout?? Why NOW?

Well, let's just fantasize about Amare's BS excuses after this season ends:

Amare:

1) I gained 20 lbs of real muscle. I did it to help the team. How was I to know it would cause me to stink? Nobody mentioned that when I went to college.

2) Uh, actually it turns out it was 4 lbs of muscle and 16 lbs of fat, but hey, who's counting?

3) I had to adjust to our new PG. Actually, he never adjusted to me.

4) There was so much attention being paid to Lin I sorta forgot how to ball.

5) Forget this damn season. Wait'll y'all see me next year.

6) Why don't you people stop looking at me as a basketball player! I'm just a normal guy with typical human frailties.

7) Come early June, I'm sure I'll be in excellent physical shape. Don't doubt me man, I've never failed you fans before.

7) Hey, I had nine great seasons and just this one clunker. 9 outta 10 ain't bad, ya know!

this is what i think happened.

Amare wasn't healthy enough to train basketball because of his back.

So he spent the whole summer in the gym and bulked up on muscle because he could never truly get basketball workouts in.

Sounds about right to me.

And it makes a ton more sense than 'Amare lied to me personally, again and again and again. He's just a big lying liar who lies.'

You're taking it a bit far, Doc. But I share your lack of enthusiasm for his comments blaming the lockout and promising to "turn it on" in the second half. These are not the comments of somebody comfortable with leadership. These are the comments of somebody too afraid to take responsibility for his own flaws, faults, and actions.

Amar'e and Melo need to start asking themselves WWJLD. WWJLD when addressing the media? WWJLD when putting effort on the court. WWJLD when ordering a sandwich? No seriously, imagine what Lin would have said about a stretch of sub-par performances. Could you imagine him blaming the lockout and promising that he'll just "turn it on" in the future?

Bingo

It's clear he did more body building than hooping. His jumper is a real tell-tale sign of that.

Actually what I'm saying. He's hiding something from us, which is pretty sad since you expect honesty from the guy you gave 100 mill to & it's obvious he's pussyfooting around about it. Actions speak louder than words and frankly both his words & actions reek.

I have no mercy for liers.

I'm saying Kerr has no way of knowing.

Case in point: A friend of mine was diagnosed with cancer ten years ago. The doctors gave him a couple of years to live, best case scenario.

I had a beer with him on Sunday.

You can see his back isnt healed yet because he just moves around and bends over like hes got a stick up his butt. Theres no fluidity to his movements anymore and hes not getting up on his dunks. Thats what Im worried about the most with him. Im not expecting him to return to All Star status at this point. Ill just be happy if he can contribute positively and his offense outweighs his defense.

Yeah I think it's more back than the dreaded knees. Based on how he's been moving it appears to be back related and not knee related. The fact that he's shown a few glimpses of his old springs tells me that the knees are fine. But the fact that he rarely seems to try tells me that something is bothering him when he does.

As a guy who's had back problems from carrying around 15-20lbs worth of extra weight (and who used to be very active) that weight does take its load on you.

I used to be a pretty competitive softball player but once my back went I couldnt swing the bat or run to field balls. Went from a guy who could hit long distance lasers with just a flick of the wrists (like a young Manny Ramirez) to a guy who was basically trying his best to hit semi hard grounders hoping for a gap (like the old Manny Ramirez). And instead of pretty much roamng the OF I ended up being a 1B. Every move hurt and eventually it gets in your head so that even if the back isn't as bad your entire core just gets out of whack. And it took a long time to get back into rythm.

I messed up my lower back deadlifting last year. I had to stop doing that and squats ever since because my back was killing me. It would hurt just when I bent over to pick things up. Its about 85% now but I still wont deadlift or squat for a while. Back problems are no joke and I can spot somebody with one a mile away. You can see Amare being very weary about bending over to pick up the ball out there. On top of it he just moves very robotically now. Lets hope he regains some of his past form but Im not going to assume anything with back problems. My brother has a bad case of it too. Sh*t doesnt mess around. Amare needs to drop the weight asap.

And that is what frustrates me with Stat. Why can't he just tell us the darned truth? Just admit that he has not yet recovered from his back injury, and then we'll accept that. Instead, it's just one BS comment after another.

The fact is, this man is hurting the Knicks when he plays. Why not take time off and get serious treatment for his (apparent) back problem, and only return to action when he is physically able?
Tanking again, I suppose. Is there any other way?
