Half season: Things I learned about 2012 Utah Jazz

Post#1 » by FJS » Wed Feb 29, 2012 6:19 pm

- We don't have a pg who can run our team

- Jefferson - Millsap are fine in offense (sometimes, not every game) but they are weak in deffense

- Hayward it's not improving too much

- Favors and Kanter need to play, but they make a lot of mistakes (how many times they TO the ball or get blocked after an offensive rebound?)

- Alec Burks could be a really nice player if we develop him.

- We don't have a franchise player

- Raja Bell still can play, after an horrible star, but he should be reserve

- CJ Miles continues being inconsistent

- Corbin is a semirookie coach and makes a lot of mistakes.

I think Hayward has all the physical gifts and that his problems are entirely mental. Jazz need to figure out a way to help him cause I don't think he's gonna figure it out himself.

Agree on everything but Raja. Just like Jefferson, he's been a solid player but he's not in our longterm plans and i see no point in him getting more than a few MPG. Burks should have nearly all his and CJ's minutes at this point since in two years Burks is going to be the only one still here.

Pretty much everything we knew going into the season. With the exception of the stretch of games where the Jazz played great ball, this season has been exactly what everyone expected. I'd say the only surprise is Hayward's inconsistent play.

Agree with OP on all points. Burks and Kanter are looking very promising to me--high ceiling players. Favors is looking like he should be a solid piece. I don't see all-star in his future, but I hope I'm wrong there.

I'm not saying that Hayward will have the same fate, but I've seen this movie before...

I agree that I think Haywards issues are mental. I'd actually prefer it if he got more touches and Al got a whole lot less. 1-3 random outside shots a game isn't any way to get in rhythm. I want Hayward to run pick and rolls all day long.

I also think we should stop forcing Millsap under the basket with guys that are much larger than him. He has the free throw line pick and pop range, we used it with great success last year and seemingly completely abandoned it this year.

Harris has been playing quite well lately and his shot seems to be falling. Ty needs to realize things like this in game and give him more shots when he has the hot hand.

Raja, when his "abductor" isnt wetting the bed, has played par basketball. I'd love his leadership off the bench.

Al has a decent post game but I think we over utilize him. His lack of all things defense completely rule out the positive offensive game he has. But if we cut his touches on offense why would we leave his porous defensive ass out there? We shouldn't, which is why I'm in favor of trading him for whatever we can get.

So far this year I think Corbin has made critical errors in playing the vets regardless of who has been playing well, thus blowing games at the end. How are the kids going to learn how to close out games if Corbin never gives them chances?

Speaking for the rest of the kids. Kanter, Favors, and Burks have been my favorite thing to watch this year. I just wish we got to see them a whole, whole lot more. Losing games while playing vets makes zero sense.

I learned that brain transplants could be possible in the near future but it may take decades for the brain to learn its new body. So in other words .... no hope for CJ in this lifetime anyway.

Also KOC is offically Kahn level as a GM although I can't blame the giving our player away for nothing on him since ownership isn't allowing him to tack on too much salary with fear of going into the luxury tax or even close.

young team, young coach, inconsistency was predictable. Anyway, i saw something good on this team, we have a future even in the wild west.
