You beat me to it! I think, for the right price, both the Suns and Roy should jump at this. Seriously. Roy, when healthy, is a top-tier PG in this league. The Suns 'Miracle Medical Staff' love a good challenge, and this is certainly it. Roy knows he's good and can make some real money if he can prove he's healthy. Join the Suns, get fixed up, regain form and profit. Maybe the Suns can make a run at Oden as well. If nothing else, it would be fun to see 'what could have been' for the Blazers.

Re: Brandon Roy comeback - with Suns medical magicians?
I love the Suns medical staff and believe they can help a lot of injured underperforming players around the league.
However, Brandon Roy has a degenerative knee condition that can not be fixed. He has little-to-no cartilage left in his knees. Roy would be playing bone-on-bone, the meniscus simply does not grow back.
This isn't something that a medical staff can fix. He'd be coming back a shell of his former self playing limited minutes with the chance he could suffer a catastrophic injury at any given time he jumps. He should have everyone who loves him around him encouraging him to not attempt a comeback, the risk of long-term physical debilitation is just way too great.
EDIT: And yes, I know of the meniscus transplant surgery, but its meant for people to just be able to move around pain-free, its never been tested for use for the purpose of a pro-athlete competing again. Its incredibly risky on Roy's part and I'd wager most medical experts would strongly encourage Roy to not trying to play competitive ball again on a transplanted meniscus.

Our staff specializes in keeping our players from getting injured in the first place, not magically healing them from whatever injury they might have. Roy's condition would be almost impossible to comeback from. He's done.

Wouldn't this be terrible news for Portland. I know they amnestied Roy, but if he retires due to an injury, and there is insurance on him, doesn't the insurance pay for 80% of his contract that was amnestied? And if he comes back, then Portland will have to pay for it fully, not the insurance. Sort of like it was for them when Darius Miles went down. He retired due to an injury, and just needed to play a few games later the next year for Portland to have to pay his remainder money.
They just can't catch a break with crap like this.

Just chop off his legs above the knee and replace them with robot legs. Half-Roy/Half-Cyborg.

just sign him we have every old player and washed up player in the League.
If he can put in 10 ppg i will be happy. None of our bench can even produce that much

I think he is really done and it might probably be best for him to not come back.

They didn't amnesty him. He retired.

They used the amnesty clause on him to be able to sign Jamal Crawford.

Re: Brandon Roy comeback - with Suns medical magicians?
Yes, Portland DID amnesty Roy, as GH said, to free up room and sign Crawford. He retired AND they amnestied him. So regardless of if Roy comes back, his salary will never come back on the Blazers books. As for the insurance part of it, I don't know the specifics on that. Regardless, it definitely won't be a Darius Miles type situation.
Glad to see some realistic conversation in here about the Suns medical staff with what they can and can't fix.

Re: Brandon Roy comeback - with Suns medical magicians?
Roy probably feels good because he hasn't been playing basketball. Once he starts preparing again, the daily grind will bring him back to reality. Have you read the quotes from the time he retired?? This doesn't sound like a guy that can come back in any capacity:
"The more I would try to prepare to have this big comeback year, the worse my knees would continue to feel,"
"As much as I want to prove right that one guy who says I still have something in the tank, I have to think about my family and what the doctor is telling me," Roy said.
"You can walk away from someone who doesn't love you. And you can walk away from someone you don't love. But when the love is mutual," Roy said. "The hardest thing is to walk away."

If there was anyone who had a shot at repairing him, it was your vodoo doctors but I don't think even they can save him. Roy is done.
His best bet is to save his money (he earned a huge contract right before things fell apart after all) and maybe look into working with ESPN or TNT or something.

Re: Brandon Roy comeback - with Suns medical magicians?
No thank you. How many more injured/retired players will the Suns go for? Why don't we go after Iverson and Finley too. lol
Suns need to get young healthy players and finally win a championship. I'm sick of our medical staff trying to work wonders on injured players.
