The Magic are definitely going to make a trade before the deadline, for better or worse. There is just 0 chance the magic stand pat, either Dwight is going or we're making a trade that solidifies Dwight staying. There is just no way Otis Smith could be that incompetent.

Because he is a high volume player who isn't going to have the ball in his hands enough with SVG to put up the same production he is in Golden State. IF (big if) Dwight promised to not opt out if we trade for Ellis, I'd do it in a heartbeat. But if that isn't the case, I'm having a hard time getting on board with gutting our roster for him. He won't solve all of our problems and we're creating new problems while we are at it.
Who cares about his scoring or how many shots he takes... it's the fact that he can CREATE for himself and for others on a dime when needed to during tough stretches, whether it's playing at PG or SG (hopefully PG)... there hasn't been a player like that on the Magic since Steve Francis... and Dwight wasn't in his prime back then... Dwight has never played with a player the caliber, athleticism, skill, and play-making abilities as Ellis... forget about shot attempts... he can do other things, such as pushing the ball, attacking, making athletic plays, and assists/passes!
And if Dwight promised to stay with us if we can get Ellis, you do it
Well said. I think people who don't want Ellis are just looking at his stats and haven't actually watched the dude play. I haven't watched a lot of games, but I've seen enough to know this guy is ridiculously talented on offense. He may not take 22 shots in a Magic uni, but SVG's not stupid enough to completely limit him. He'll still take the most shots on the team and he'll create havoc. He and Dwight will both benefit from each other's presence on the court. In the position ORL is in, they'd be stupid not to make the trade for him (if offered).

You wouldn't take a 22/6 guy that shoots 81 percent from the line?
the main drawback for me would be his 3 pt shooting
Also he's not a PG, anyone here thinking he is, is delusional
and he's young... he's 26... he's not some 33 year old or 29 year old... he still hasn't even reached his prime yet

Idk what Ellis has to do to get respect around here... he literally tore us a new *sshole when we faced them earlier this season... went into 2001-2003 T-Mac mode late in the game, no one could stop him!
If it wasn't for GS's porous defense and inability to stop Dwight (they sent him to the line almost 40 times that night, remember?), GS would have won... now imagine Ellis playing on the same team with Dwight.
I'm starting to get tired of agreeing with you.

exactly.... dude is also exciting as well... he's one of my favorite players in the league (outside of a Magic player)... he is a legit star... someone that Dwight can depend on during games and not have the burden of doing everything at the offensive end.

I'm not really interested in speculation (plus I don't really like the term speculation - too easy to whine without having much conviction in your choices) but lots of players came much closer to making Golden State a relevant team than Ellis.
This was after all a team that still pulled an upset over Dallas.
This was a team that was on the up and up when they had Gilbert Arenas at sg.
Golden State's problem is that in many ways they were the future of current day Orlando and that held them back.
Even now think of how Orlando can acquire Ellis if Ellis really was that good of a player. GS had lots of these types of players not pan out.
I do have a morbid curiosity to see Nelson blow it up in GS' system though. Especially if they keep Mark Jackson. Could play better than Ellis and fit better with Curry and work some magic with Lee.

No coach. No GM. Probably no star. I swear, in my 23 years of following this team, I can't name a stranger time than this moment to be a supporter of the Magic.

And people are forgetting who their coaches were throughout his career... Stan is going to be the first good coach he has ever played for... you guys know I don't like Stan... but, I do know he has the BEST defensive schemes in the NBA... just let Ellis run wild and the rest of the team plays defense and we have a big chance at a championship... maybe not this year but the year after that or 2 years from now.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt XIII: Trade Deadline con
Justin Harper is a 2nd round rookie who hasn't proven a thing. Thinking he could just step in and fill the void left by the league's best three point shooter with a PER through the roof is being a little silly. Some of you are forgetting how good of a rebounder Anderson is this season, no way a rookie Harper comes in and fills that void. I can't see us getting David Lee back from GS with Ellis anyways.
This whole playmaker thing gets so overused. Monta Ellis is a "playmaker" because Golden State pretty much gives him free reign. In SVG's offense, he wouldn't be getting the ball every time down letting him shoot or pass when he pleases. He'd have to play within our system and the numbers would go down. Nearly every perimeter player we've brought in have seen their numbers go down, the same would happen with Ellis.
I'm not being "picky", I'm just not going to drool at his statline and highlight videos and think we'll get those same things in Orlando. You just don't see 22/6 or whatever he is averaging and throw that on to another team and get the same thing. When Ellis is averaging 16 ppg or so, we have problems with our frontcourt other than Dwight, our depth sucks and we lose in the playoffs, people will realize that Ellis wasn't fixing all of our problems and Dwight probably bolts to play with D-Will.

Lmao. Suddenly Monta Ellis is a good creator. Suddenly he is some magnificent, elite player even though GS is eager to get rid of him for 2 years but NOBODY wants him!
5.7apg and 3.3TOs.....really. Career 4.3apg and 2.2TOs. Calling him a playmaker is an insult to legit playmakers out there. Steve Nash is rolling around in his grave right now.

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt XIII: Trade Deadline con
id gut this roster for ellis. our best assets are anderson/jj/jameer/1st/jrich/orton/Q/future picks.
i think they would like jj or jrich and anderson would be great there. they are a great 3pt shooting team and would fit in well.
magic out: anderson jj nelson orton 1st
magic in: ellis biedrins
NO out: Kaman
NO in: Nelson orton+magic 1st
GS out: ellis biedrins
GS in: Kaman Anderson JJ
then maybe swap turk for sjax since we won't need turks playmaking as much with ellis out there.

Monta has to deal with many double teams since they have no other players and Curry being injured most of the season. Imagine how that would improve passing to Dwight.
Heck, that 5.7 as a SG is more than Meer as a PG.
