Should I veto this trade?

Post#1 » by YouMustBeJoakim » Mon Feb 27, 2012 10:59 pm

Head to Head format, TO included.

Marc Gasol and Jeff Teague for Kyrie Irving and Tim Duncan.

It's the 3rd place team trading with the last place team with virtually no chance of making it into the playoffs (3rd place team receiving Irving and Duncan). And it's 2 days before the trade deadline, so it seems suspicious. I know Gasol has been killing it but his stats may drop off once ZBo comes back.

Let me know what you guys think please.

On a personal level, I take stuff like ZBO coming back into consideration...but you're not supposed to as a LM. It's debateable as to whether the trade is fair...overall...but I can see reasons why the trade can go through.

IMHO...it's vetoable on a Team Owner level...but not on a League Manager level.

Like I said in my original post, the trade itself seems fair. It's the other factors I'm considering. The last place team hasn't even set his lineup in the last 2 weeks, and he's nowhere close to being in playoff contention. In my eyes, that's collusion.

Tough situation. I hate crap like this.

Had a similar situation last year in one of my leagues. A non-active owner "woke up" and agreed to a trade with the first place guy. Something like Amir Johnson (who was top 35 at the time) for RJ (who was barely cracking 200). It got veoted and started a bit of a **** storm but I thought it was the right decision.

That being said, I just think this trade is too fair to veto and unless you can definitely prove collusion, you have to let it go through. If you veto this you pretty much have to lock up any non-playoff teams. It just gets too messy if you veto a trade like this. For future years I'd just make a rule at the beginning of the season where if you don't set your lineup for a week or something and you don't have a legit excuse for it, you can't make trades.

sounds like you have no idea how it is to be a commish. i just changed the format where the league can vote to veto. And guess what? it got vetoed because everyone believed it was collusion.

Thanks for the help anyways.

Id be pretty pissed if this trade got vetoed. Duncan while old still gives you all around production and irving is miles better than teague who has slumped hard in comparison to the beginning of the season.

To be honest, I don't think the trade should've been vetoed. Like you said yourself, the trade itself seems fair. And in my opinion, the person receiving Marc Gasol even seems to be getting the BETTER end of the deal. Marc Gasol is currently ranked 7th overall. Irving and Duncan don't even come close to that. Factor in the point that Duncan may miss games towards the end of the season. IF ANYTHING, the third place team is hurting his team more than anything.

On another note, changing the format mid-season is a commissioner no-no. Rules and Settings should be made and agreed upon before the start of the season.

Just my 2 cents.
