Totally agree with this thread we finally have a chance to settle the roster and allow players to develope chemistry with that said doesn't matter who will start because they both will play a critical roll especially baron during the playoffs

I thought it was great bringing the starters back for several reasons...

- Gave the crowd a chance to give a huge cheer for the subs as they came out. Once for Jeffries and Novak, a second time for Baron and JR. You know coaches like to do that and it worked great, crowd really showed their appreciation, even chanting for NOVAK after he went out.

- They were getting gassed, that group was in since the third quarter, they needed a break.

It gave the feeling that everyone was equal and made that second unit feel special and appreciated for the work they put in blowing the game open.

Good job by D'Antoni, you could tell the second unit felt like a million bucks. And Novak getting the Tina interview must has really made him feel appreciated, you could see he was glowing. Good post!

D'antoni made what I thought was a reasonable point. The second team had been playing for awhile and, at the five minute mark, D'Antoni had a decision to make: (i) either you go with the second team the whole way; (ii) or you sub them out. The third option, subbing them out if the game was closer at the three minute mark means you sub in cold starters who are out of rhythm and expect them to close out the game. The first option means you are just gassing them and the team will likely be dead by the end of the game. The second option seemed best. It was a thoughtful response that I appreciated.

If Baron said all he is good for right now is 15 minutes that is good enough reason not to push him too hard too fast. Lin is young and can play 30-35 minutes with Baron getting the rest. Oh no, I'm not saying to rush this...but by the end of March, I'd feel a lot of comfort with Baron worked up to 20 mpg comfortably. Lin's young but he's also played so sparingly up until recently that I still worry about fatigue building up and god forbid he runs into foul trouble any time...Baron would be pushed or we'd run an ugly offense without one of those two in. For now 15 mins is cool with Baron, but I'm hoping he's talking about stamina rather than back pain.

Good points and also I think it's something that is going to continue. We need to get the starters and bench ready to both contribute and not just ride the "hot" group. (On certain nights yes). Overall we need to acclimate the team to this. Come the playoffs they will not be gassed and be able to go all out.

When he drives, he doesn't look all sporadic and go crashing to the floor, he slices and gets the open layup - it just looks different.... In other words, like he doesn't have to try as hard... I can see why Dantoni isn't shutting him out, bc I think weeks down the line he'll be competing for some big time.... Which is a great thing to have..

Anyway, Mike Breen needs to "STOP IT!!" Carmelo had like one wing isolation last game, and Breen was talking about hearing groans from the crowd because he isolated. It was one freaking isolation play. He needs to do that in order to make the Knicks more versatile and therefore harder to defend. The crowd probably groaned because he missed the shot, or because maybe they felt he could have gotten to the basket if he decided to drive.

Carmelo Anthony was efficient shooting the ball last night, so the offense looked explosive. What hindered the offensive before was Melo's inefficient shooting (FG @ 39% on the season), not the fact that he isolated too much. Also, The Knicks offense was hindered by D'Antoni bad coaching decision of making Anthony a point forward. Anthony is not capable of running this team the way Lin and Davis can, and putting him in the role of facilitator hurt his offensive aggressiveness. The offense had a lot of 'Melo isolations' due to the fact that Douglas only knew two plays, throw it in the post to Carmelo and pass it back to the perimeter if I don't shoot it. Shumpert was the same way. Neither of the previous "PGs" ran the pick-and-roll with any type of frequency/consistency.
