Ra-on Rondo?

Post#1 » by _tijo_ » Thu Mar 1, 2012 3:53 pm

OK, normally, I would take a pass on Mr. No J, but here's a scenario that makes a little sense I think to see if we can go after him. Boston's actively shopping him, and we need a star.

He's locked in at a reasonable number for at least 3 more years. If we can somehow get him for a package of DJ, Kemba, and TT with a pick (portland's 1st), we could have our PG spot locked up for a while. No more tweeners or small ball. And it would be the most reasonable way to get a top shelf player here in Charlotte, without having to hit the lottery.

We wouldn't win more games with him this year anyway, so if we get Anthony Davis (next KG), and somehow get Hendo to develop into Pierce (vastly overrated IMHO, he's not that much better than Hendo), and Bizmack would play the Perk role, we would just need to fill the Ray Allen spot with free agency.

I think it's at least worth looking into to get a player of Rajon's status. They don't come around that often, and he is a top 5 pg in the league. He looks to pass to a fault, and he can take over games. He can get others involved, and would make things more exciting at the cable box.
Who I woulda took:
2023: Miller | 2022: Duren | 2021: Bouknight, Jones | 2020: Ball | 2019: PJ | 2018: MPJ | 2017: Monk | 2016: Damian Jones | 2015: Winslow | 2014: Vonleh, Napier | 2013: McLemore | 2012: MKG | 2011: Knight, Kawhi

I am not sure that Rhondo is long term better than Kemba let alone DJ and Kemba. There is no way I would trade both and the Portland pick for him.

Kemba can't carry Rondo's mouthpiece. Rajon would be a monster here once we have some extra talent around him. HOWEVER, he is used to having talent around him, and I'm not sure how long he'd survive here while waiting on the calvary. Still, would love to build around him here.

Suspect we would have to move a lot..DJ, Tyrus (if they'd take him) and a pick for sure.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

combination of loving rondo and realizing that nobody on our roster, except maybe biz, would start on a decent playoff team... and half wouldnt get off the bench. hell, half might not even get out of a suit. i'd hate to lose hendo. he's the only other player that it would bother me to lose, but i'd do it in a package for rondo.

biz and hendo, those are the only two players i care to see on this team in 2 years. it wouldnt bother me one bit if we traded the rest of them or didnt resign them.

I guess I am the only one who thinks that he wouldn't be half as good without two hall of fame wings spreading the floor for him. I have been wrong before. :)

The problem with this is Silas playing the role of Doc Rivers

Seriously, it would be great for the Bobs. If that ever happen, it would be on the offseason. Lets suppose the Cs take DJ, Tyrus and picks. You would still have Kemba, who is a really great prospect, BIz, Hendo, BJ and a drafted player. Get a couple of FAs, try to trade Mags and it would be a playoff team. Even if you lose Biz or Hendo, in a couple of seasons the Bobs could build a nice team

^ No way the Cs take that, unless it's our top 5 pick, which we won't trade. DJ and Kemba would both be included. Kemba won't ever be at Rondo's level. Plus a pass first pg like Rondo could convince star players to sign with us.

Say we trade both DJs, Kemba, and Reggie for Rondo and include a future lottery protected 1st rounder, that gives both sides great futures.

Not sure how Rondo would do without hall of famers around him. IMO hes the best pure point in the league, but a Pure Point won't make u do much better if you have no offensive talent around him. Plus i'm wary of building a nucleous of players that have already won a ring, thats why I wouldn't give up too much for a player like Bynum, sure hes hungry, but unless he has the Kobe mentality(which he doesn't) he won't be as hungry as he was before winning one.

This will never happen anyway as Cho has openly said no quick fix or panic moves will be made and that we are sticking to the plan, it is nice to dream though and a lot of you are really underrating Kemba.

As for SG (scorer) - what do you think about Shabazz Muhammad? (maybe we are going to miss on very first pick this year and get lucky next year instead - I doubt we would get both Davis (or '12 BPA) and Muhammad (or '13 BPA)

Muhammad may not be #1 now if Nerlens Noel only stays one year which could play to our advantage if Muhammad drops to #2 next year, assuming we get Davis.

We can't trade our own picks anymore, except after the seasons are over.

IMHO Rondo has been carrying that team the last two years. Easily the best player on the Celtics, by far.

Yeah there's no doubt that he's the best player. He makes them look good and they make it easier for him to do so, they've just had a great bunch of talent. Sure, he wouldn't make the bobcats win 40 million games or anything, because the rest of our squad would be so outclassed. But most PGs in his place wouldn't be nearly as effective.
