My kind of thread. The idea that Lin will suddenly be pulled from the starting lineup for Davis is just.....my God.....stupid. Let's just enjoy the 2 headed PG monster Mike D'Antoni has at his disposal. It's probably our teams biggest strength right now. Just watch it and enjoy.

Glad you threw Melo a bone as well. This guy is doing nothing wrong right now. Being a team player, playing with effort and is helping the Knicks get wins. Let's wait til we get to the playoffs before we ask the world of him.

I hope not. The only thing that can stop the Knicks now is D'Antoni's horrible coaching decisions.

We are so deep that even his terrible coaching decisions will be masked behind pure talent and luck.

What terrible coaching decisions? What has he done that's so detrimental to the team exactly?

It's funny to me how everyone bashes the coach, and thinks coach X would be better.

You go to coach X's team's board, and they hate that dude.

Stop it!: Baron davis will not start over lin. we finally have a young PG to lead this team and a potentially great veteran backup who can come in and play like a starter. a guy who was once an allstar talent, but now wants to get back and win and have fun.. this is a quote from Baron

“For a good part of my career, I wasn’t having fun and I didn’t really enjoy the game and I wanted to enjoy the game again,” Davis said. “I figured if I played in this system that’s fit for my talents then I’ll be able to do that.”
Davis, who turns 33 in April, said he’s not at full strength yet. He also said he can’t really play more than 15 minutes at the moment.
“That was enough,” he said. “Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.”

Baron just wants to win and have fun and maybe he found a real role here.. so STOP IT!!!

STOP IT!! steve Novak's role is an off the bench sniper, he has his limitations but what he does best, is what he did last night, perfect role that will keep him in the NBA for a very long time... So no, he does not need to start on this team, not over fields or amare.... His role is to come in with the second unit and shoot and make shots.. so STOP IT!!!

STOP IT!! This goes to the NY post writer marc Berman.. stop with the melo cheap shots.. Listen, I am not the biggest melo fan at all, but he is on our team and honestly, the guy is trying hard, maybe too hard to fit in.. .so STOP IT!!! with digs like this

Anthony was taken out with 1:39 to go in the third quarter with the Knicks locked in a 76-76 tie and the club started to play with more spirit and defensive fervor.

Really berman? really? STOP IT!!!!!!!!!

We are finally putting a decent product on the floor it seems with the potential to do bigger things... lets take things for what they are and not go overboard, everyone has a role to pay and on some nights guys will play bigger roles , doesn't mean they need to start, or the team is better without the other guy.... If I can try to enjoy this, then I know anyone can... :D

I agree for the most part, but I do question whether Fields should be starting . . . Shumpert brings the ability to really harass the opposing team's ball handler, and JR and Novak bring better shooting. It's not hard to see that the starting line-up might not be the most complementary assembly of players.

I think Mike was paying lip service and that's it. It'd be disrespectful to lock up the line-up right after Smith and Baron get on the court. Especially Baron who came here with plenty of options and probably thought he'd have a fighting chance to start. It's just a respect move.

...Or he's really letting Fields know that he's in the hot seat.

But no way is Lin's starting role in ANY trouble unless he has a monumental collapse that lasts for just as long as he's carried us AND costs us games. He's too valuable to develop and to the organization's pay roll to give a diminished role without HUGE reason.

Well I don't know any Muslims who coach in the NBA so I'm confused by your point. But he makes terrible coaching decisions all the time. Just last night he brought the starters back in for what reason? He destroyed Toney Douglas trying to make him a square when he was in need of a circle. Playing his infamous 7 man rotation for 4 years even though the results were mediocre. I can go on and on. What pray tell are his good attributes? Open my eyes to the greatness of D'antoni. And none of the coaches I covet are even coaching at this moment.

This is all nonsense.

The starters need to learn to close games. Plus the second unit was getting tired. Even then, who cares? It was neither a good nor bad decision. It was just a decision.

Toney Douglas ruined Toney Douglas. He has no vision, and Mike had no other PG on the roster.

Mike plays who he trusts. Can't blame a coach for that.

How is it all nonsense? Did he not let players marinate on the bench who are now contributing for other teams(Nate Robinson, Corey Brewer) just to maintain his seven man rotation game plan? You did not tell me any of his positive attributes. This the reason that I don't like to argue with you D'antoni apologists about D'antoni. Every time I ask what good has he done you guys just say something like "what other good coaches are out there?" That's not a good defense for keeping Mike D'antoni.

I think now he has one of the deepest teams in the league thanks to Grunwald and it has forced D'antoni to open the rotation and stop with the shenanigans. Jeremey Lin had been on the team and D'antoni clearly stated that he had no plans to utilize him or Jerome Jordan. I don't trust his judgement on certain players or his coaching gimmick.

I may not be a big fan of melo, but I am a diehard knick fan, andmelo plays for the knicks. As long as he is really trying to help us win, I am happy with that. I just didn't think it was fair to throw melo under the bus on a night where we should be celebrating the work of our bench.. it was just a cheap, cheap shot by berman....

He finally has the pieces he needs and he's winning games. His players like him, stick up for him, and play hard for him. Lin openly credits D'Antoni for his success.

You want to throw that away for Nate friggin Robinson and COREY F*CKING BREWER?

Please. Nate got what he deserved and Corey wasn't going to play here, so we released him as a courtesy. Move on.

He didn't make any terrible decisions last night, or really any night since he's gotten a real roster.

His game substitutions were fine last night. But we do pay a price, as you pretty much admitted a couple weeks ago, for Mike's lack of discipline and leadership. The team will often not show up or miss assignments, seem disorganized and lose poise in games. The way we started last night's game was bad coaching.

Again, I quote Chris Webber, an experienced player who is going to the HOF and a smart guy: 'The basic thing about coaching is not X's and O's or philosophy, it's just simply ... Does your team show up and play really hard every game?'

I feel we're unready, unprepared and not on the same page a lot. That is changing but it's with a lot of talent. I think Mike is an average game coach -- substitutions are fine, but does some bad things like missing detail (one time our team didn't know it had a foul to give, he never gives the foul when up 3 in the final seconds, etc.). I think his ability to stay on top of the team and demand energy and accountability, from the outset of every game no matter what, is poor. Thibodeau is a great comparison. He always has his team ready. And they also move the ball well -- Thibs is a good offensive coach too.

Remember that this is the guy, MD, who imposed no defensive imperative on this team at all for three years. Did he have great defensive players? No. But this is not just Tyson -- the team is trapping, practicing ball denial -- all things that did not exist at all under Mike for three years. You don't need a great big man to play with energy and smarts defensively. The Cavs do right now and don't have that (granted it didn't work last night). He had Turiaf and didn't even play him. He brought Mozgov along very slowly. He's had Jeffries but he never made the impact he's making now that we have a defensive identity.

He plays Tyson major minutes, I will give him credit for that, but part of me thinks it's because he is so good at cutting, catching, finishing. That and he knows he can't get away with benching him. And Amar'e is absent. Tyson is taking Amar'e's offensive opportunities.

I do believe that you were right that we needed a PG and that Mike's system can work brilliantly on some nights -- he understands offensive flow and can ramp up scoring better than most coaches. But he's lost in a lot of areas.

A few wins don't change that. If the Knicks win .600+ games the rest of the way, I'll give his due. So far, I don't see it at all. I wish I did.

The way we started last night's game was a lack of focus and preparation that comes from the bench. And if you fall behind by 12 at half, you're going to lose 70%+ of those games. You said we should just not panic and be optimistic in that first half -- fine, I'm very glad it worked out and we didn't lay another egg in a semi-must-win game.

But make no mistake about it -- we lucked out last night. If you come in without the mindset to impose your will on the other team, and fall behind by a lot early, you are going to lose the lion's share of those games.

And the only reason we can start this badly is because our coach is not getting these guys ready, motivated, focused and following a solid gameplan that will keep us on top or very competitive early on (at least) against opponents we should beat. You don't have to blow the doors off the opponent every 'easy' game but you have to stay in striking distance. Last night we fell way behind and came back. Great. But that won't get it done.

Diatribe over :)

KG, the most telling quote coming out of the Cavs game was the report of Tyson laying into his teammates at half time and challenging them to play like the real deal if they want to be contenders.

You're right about Mike. He should be earning his 500 a minute salary by at least getting these guys on the same page and ready to ball, but the truth is he lost them before Lin and was basically a lifeless corpse ready to accept his early termination.

What I don't see lately is a lot of hate against MD, but a whole lot of backlash from people calling D'Antoni critics "haters" and I think that is where most of the negativity is bottled up and being regurgitated on to the board. The long term critics of this coach got it out of their systems a long time ago.

What makes anyone think we would change our opinion of him overnight? Its a pretty unreasonable expectation. Taking some wins and saying we told you so he's a good coach just makes me chuckle and I rarely even respond as I can't imagine why I'd want to fight with the rabidness of the pocket faction that supported MD all this time. i still think he's a weak coach, but I'm all for success so he is by far the lesser of two evils, the other evil being missing the playoffs and sucking ballz for another year.

As my sig remains the same, it is clear I have no reason to change my opinion that Lin saved MD and that's about the sum of his story as a coach of the Knicks as far as I'm concerned. He is still going to get outcoached. Most of the fans know this. All we're hoping for is we're better and more cohesive as a team because of guys like Tyson and Lin pulling us together.
