The Desperate Nets Article

Post#1 » by Preludepunk27 » Thu Mar 1, 2012 10:56 pm

I don't start much here, but I've been a part of this site for a long time.

I am politely asking you to have Jonathan Tjarks issue a formal apology to the entire Nets board for his article. Again, I'm trying to me nice, but the 5th grader maturity of that article and disregard of all logic has insulted the entire Nets fan base on this board.

We are simply asking for an apology and for you to take it off the main page immediately as it is more slanderous hate than actual journalist.

I've never complained about RealGM article before but the 'Desperate Nets' article is certainly filled with unnecessary digs and many pejorative comments that should not be endorsed by RealGM.

The first paragraph alone is a prime example of the biased and unfair assessment that the writer gives of the Nets situation:
A year after their reckless move to grab Deron Williams at the trade deadline, things are not looking good for the New Jersey Nets. Instead of building a team around Brook Lopez, Derrick Favors and a pick that could have been Brandon Knight or Kemba Walker, the Nets have one of the weakest rosters 3-12 in the NBA.

1. I can understand if the Nets traded for Deron Williams now without reassurances that he would opt-in or re-sign, it would be an unwise basketball decision because you've given up so much to get a guy who clearly has no intentions to re-sign.

The main problem is the Deron has only praised Nets management and has endorsed every move the Nets have made to the point that he has even called his blog 'Road to Brooklyn'.

To say that the Nets move to trade for a superstar, who has given every indication that he wants to remain on the Nets, as reckless is to assert that we absolutely threw away some good for something much worse.

One could at least wait until the summer to see if the Nets keep D-Will before using hindsight to say that it was a reckless move. But to preemptively say the Nets made a dumb move before the trade deadline is even over seems way too biased and overly critical.

2. The author quotes Lopez' rebounding situation without properly putting it into the context that he's not only played limited minutes in his first two games, but that he's only played 3 games in total this season. A 3-game sample size is by no means sufficient pool of data to cite and yet the author paints Lopez as an extremely anemic rebounder, while conveniently forgetting to mention that has had good-to-great scoring efforts in the same 3-game span.

3. So while speaking of how bad Lopez is, the author states that despite Andray Blatche being more of a loose canon than JaVale McGee and not being any where close to living up his potential, the Nets should trade for him and make the two-man combo of Gerald Green and Andray Blatche a foundation the Nets can build on.

Despite having one of steals in the draft in MarShon Brooks, the author is implying that the Nets should cast him away and take the 1-game sample size of a player who's been in the D-League for 3 years and horrible play of Andray Blatche and make them their franchise players?

If the Nets are so bad that they need a uninspired, loose canon of a player in Blatche and a D-leaguer to (as the author says) "turn the franchise around", they shouldn't be an NBA basketball team. It is so easy to tell that this article is less of an honest analysis of the Nets situation and more of a pejorative slap in the face to the Nets and their fan base.

As PreludePunk says, something should be done about this.

You're seriously gonna use free speech on this? If that's the case, why do people get banned on this site? Hypocrite.

How bout John comes to the Nets forum and back up his words? You can have free speech all you want, but he's a coward if he doesn't speak up.

Jonathan needs to post or at least have his name revealed. One of the worst articles I've ever read.

Writing inflammatory drivel with little to no research to support it does not an article make. He should be ashamed of himself if he has any journalistic integrity.

I'm honestly disappointed with RealGM. I have a lot of respect for this site, it has some of the best basketball minds I've ever discussed things with, and I've learned a lot. It has a reputation for being a great place for open discussion.

So for them to allow such an obvious trolling/baiting attempt as a feature article, it's beneath them, and it surprises me. All he did was trash the Nets and suggest an obviously ridiculous alternative. A thread with that same content about any other team would have been locked immediately, and the OP would have been suspended, at the least.

RealGM is better than this.

Am I the only one that's wondering why the 2005 draft? Why not Martell Webster?

Wow, so I just posted in the thread on the GB with an email that showed the author was serious about the article and then almost instantly the entire thread was deleted?!

Sinking to new lows, this is some communist ish right here...

Seriously shoemaker, no BS, like some corny cop coverup by the mods...

Listen, the article is still up, how do you have the audacity to keep locking and now deleting a thread about it?!

As far as I know there's still a tab at the bottom of all articles on this site that reads, "Discuss" and takes you to a forum so you can create a thread about it.

I honestly wasn't even mad, just stunned by the Bush Leagueness of the article, but this is ridiculous.

You should either take the article down or stop locking and now deleting threads about it.

Does this site have any integrity what so ever?

Why do you guys care so much? Obviously the author stands by his opinions or he would have never written and published the article.

I would like to make it known that I support Jon and liked the article. The truth just hurts, I suppose.

The truth is that Andray Blatche is one of the most 20 skilled players in the world? Yeah, keep thinking that. That must really hurt Wizards fans, being that he's awful.

This is unacceptable, RealGM. And you should all be ashamed of yourselves, sweeping things away with smoke and mirrors, trying to hide the fact that what was written was absolutely rubbish. You want to be an actual sports site that someone will go to in order to get sporting news? Then stop publishing Texas-league articles that a high school newspaper writer would be ashamed to publish.

Come on now. He wrote that the Nets best option right now is to trade for Andray Blatche, and then build your franchise around him with Gerald Green as the other cornerstone. There is no way in hell you consider this the truth.

I'm a Knicks fan. I always giggle on the inside when someone is mocking the Nets. But that article looks more like a trolling post from the General Board than a serious journalistic piece. If RealGM strived for professionalism, the admins would remove it before someone sends it to Yahoo's Ball Don't Lie. You don't want bad publicity.

This is the forum where users can discuss the article. ( Feedback and Suggestions).

There is no cover up as the thread was moved to have further discussion on the topic. I happen to agree with everyone that it is a bad article. However, posting the same Feedback and Suggestion topic on the GB is going to continue to get it locked and or moved.

Please use this area to vent.

Okay... okay, at best it really should have been a blog post, but at the same time, it wasn't crazy. The Nets have really put all of their eggs in the Deron/Dwight basket at this point and it is really unfortunate that Lopez got hurt, but if Deron and Dwight leave Gerald Green and Andray Blatche are clearly the next best options. I could see how the article is construed as being terrible, at no point does he mention drafting Brandyn Curry.

Was it labeled as an opinion piece? Maybe RealGM should consider having that option beneath the by-line next to the author's name.
