Toronto's new Closer:
20 IP
10 H
6 BB
21 K
0.80 WHIP
0.00 ERA (longest streak in MLB without allowing a run)
4 Saves
Fastball touches 98mph (throws 94-97 consistently) with a nasty splitter and a decent slider (which he doesn't use that often). Still has a LOT of upside as a pitcher; he was only converted to a pitcher halfway through his collegiate career. He was garnering hype as being San Fran's "future" closer before being dealt for Shea Hillenbrand.
How does Sabean get himself into these trades?

No offense, but who cares? Is Accardo all of a sudden Joe Nathan? Eric Gagne (in his prime?)? Closers are overrated, and because Accardo has pitched well for 2 months, thats sufficient time to brag?
EVERY team hits a HR with a trade now and then... thats why theres the old saying, "Even blind squirrels find a nut now and again". Maybe I can start bragging about saying the Gil Meche signing wasn't a bad one, hell, its been two months right?
All that said... Accardo certainly was a nice prospect, but he wasn't cutting it in SF. This has been happening to Sabean for a while now though, I think hes feeling the heat to win because of Bonds being there... once Barry retires, the Giants can finally rebuild...

I happened to witness his one and only blown save so far... and I was still impressed that his location has improved a ton since before. Reeks of Turnbow, but still, a nice find while BJ gets TJ's...

In Sabean's defense (sort of), in the last few years the strength of his organization has been the depth of pitching prospects, and he's done a good job of anticipating which ones are worth keeping (Lincecum, Cain, Lowry, Hennesey, probably Brian Wilson) and which ones were going to flame out (Foppert, Jerome Williams). Accardo might be the exception, but for the most part he's done a decent job turning the surplus into usable assets.
